I have been waiting to get on the FTTP trial for 3 months now and, finally, Openreach have been out this morning to install the cable into the house and fix the box to wall. This all looks fine and there is a solid green light which, apparently, shows it has a broadband signal.
However, the router is showing an orange "b" and the handbook says this indicates that the account is not active.
Will this be activated soon, automatically, or do I need to contact someone to request it?

Fixed! Go to the fix.

Hi @MysteryMan1
Thanks for getting in touch.
I can confirm that the account is definitely active on FTTP and that the order has fully completed.
It looks like the router has lost the details to authenticate itself at the exchange, so I'd recommend resetting it as per the below:
1). Turn off the router using the power button on the back of the router.
2). Insert a pin (or similar) into the reset hole that is next to the power button whilst the router is turned off.
3). Turn on the router keeping the pin in the hole.
4). Keep the pin in the hole for ten seconds and then release.
5). Allow the router to reset.
If this doesn't resolve the issue, I've raised a ticket for you here with further information that should help.
Let us know how you get on.
Best wishes,
Dave

Dave
Thanks for looking into this.
I got an email about an hour ago to tell me the account was activated and I can confirm that it is now working fine.
Speed is a bit variable, but, last couple of times have shown 74/9 Mbps which, if it stays around that, is very acceptable!

74/9 ?
What speed tester did you use? If it was BT's checker I would try another as the speeds should be reporting in the area of 74/20.
The BT speed tester has known issues of misreporting speeds.
Some good, reliable speed testers are

Moved to FTTP Trial board.
If it helped click the thumb
If it fixed it click 'This fixed my problem'

Thanks for reply. I used Speedtest.net for initial test. Have just done 3 tests and they all come out about same.....
Speedtest.net: 74.55/9.66
Thinkbroadband: 74/9.3
Dslreports: 74.3/9.17
So, download speeds look fine, but, upload speeds seem to be roughly half of what you suggest I should be getting.
Any thoughts on steps to take?

It needs to be investigated by Plusnet as something is out of sync along the line.
My FTTP 80/20 typically returns 75/21 on the majority of testers using a wired connection (there is always a bit of inaccuracy in the results due to router/pc buffering)
@RandallFlagg can you investigate?

My initial order was for the 38Mbps service which, I believe, has an upload speed of 10Mbps
However, I changed this, at a later date, to 76Mbps.
Is it possible the d/l speed was altered but not the u/l speed?

I have been into router and disconnected and connected. Also, re-started router.
No change....still at 10.
Did you want me to power down/up the Openreach box on wall?

It's worth a try, it certainly won't shouldn't do any harm.

If it's a combined box (one piece) then there's a reset pin hole on the left hand side. I can find a link to the manufacture's guide if needed.

I tried all of the above MysteryMan1. Nothing seemed to help.
Miraculously I woke on the day of my engineer visit and had 20mb/s upload. I had previously enjoyed 20mb/s upload for some time prior to this. I still have no idea what caused it to drop to 10mb/s.
