You might want to update your sig as BBYW no longer exists as you know.

What, not even as a 'legacy' product which some people might still be on?

And people would be a fool to be seeing as the new products are even cheaper.

Quote from: tony4384 With reference to an earlier question will FTTP be dumped after FTTdp is rolled out as any extra speed will only benefit a few who require silly speeds.
FTTP is the pinnacle of broadband technology - the great advantage of it is that as the technology to send data over fibre optics improves and gets faster, you only ever need to change some equipment in the exchange and the end user's ONT. The physical fibre connection will always remain in situ and shouldn't never need to be upgraded.
FTTdp is trying to extend the lifespan of the copper network. The speeds available will no where near the potential of a full fibre network, but the potential speeds of FTTPdp will more than be adequate for end users for the next 10-15 years. There is a significant cost in deploying FTTdp and some limitations - one of them is that a FTTdp box can only serve 4 lines at the moment.

Quote from: Risky I guess I will have to throw myself on the tender mercies of Sky or (shudders) BT.
Not sure that Sky offer FTTP, so I think it's either a niche isp like A&A, or a move over to the "dark side". Having said that our village has had FTTP for a year or so and I haven't heard any complaints about BT's service once it's up and running (although ordering can be a pain, especially if the site survey reveals blocked ducts, difficult access etc etc)

Yep it looks like BT are the only mainstream option. It's an overhead line so I imaginge it's comparatively straightforward. A shame I lose my £6 a month referral discount

You should, however, still find that £5 of that £6 a month paid back in to your bank account (and £10 paid in every 5 months).

Depends how long the overhead line is, does it traverse many poles, or dive straight down into BT's existing underground ducting? Mine is delivered from the pole, but the Distribution Point is under the BT manhole cover at one end of the street, which in turn is fed from the Splitter at the other end.
One problem which can happen with overheads is shared utility poles - if any of them in the chain are used by the electricity services the engineers have to have a specialist qualification. Can slow things down a bit

Out of contract with Plusnet and with my annual phone rental due for renewal I would be keen to move to FTTP with whoever (except Sky).
Can anyone through any light on new trials commencing?

Sorry if it's a dumb question Dave, but following your link goes to a description of the FTTP Trial, so does that mean the trial is already back? (The reason I'm asking is that I'm not sure if the FTTP Trial description etc. was removed when the trial ended before and has now been replaced).
