FTTP - download speed went superslow on the 3rd - still "down"

I already raised a question at Plusnet but they must be really busy - no answer yet.  Problem: Download speed went down to way less than a meg yesterday - and its still there now.
Only strange thing was that I tried at 7 am and the speed was up - in the 30's - but within a few minutes it was back below a meg.
Upload speed is solidly good at 15meg.
Anybody else seeing this?. I'm in Loughton, Milton Keynes

Re: FTTP - download speed went superslow on the 3rd - still "down"

I'm also in Loughton, Milton Keynes, and just did a speed test in response to your problem (using mybroadbandspeed.co.uk). Plugged directly into the router I got 91542 kbps down and 15025 kbps up. Also didn't notice any problems yesterday.
Have you tried turning the ONT on and off. . . ?

Re: FTTP - download speed went superslow on the 3rd - still "down"

I'm in Walnut Tree, MK and also noticed some severe performance issues yesterday evening. A speed test was showing download speed of under 300kb and as with you Peter upload remained steady at 15Mb. A router reboot had no effect. I haven't tried power cycling the ONT yet but will do so if things haven't improved this evening.

Re: FTTP - download speed went superslow on the 3rd - still "down"

Latest is that although I had power cycled both the ONT and the router this morning to no effect, I did it again at 12 noon - and the download speed came back at 90mb. Its currrently still OK.
Maybe "they" are doing something at either BT or Plusnet - I just wish they would tell me...
More later...lets hope it stays up!

Re: FTTP - download speed went superslow on the 3rd - still "down"

OK, not good, here is my most recent speedtest.

The download is quite a bit slower than I was used to on ADSL!  Sad
It looks like there may be a problem at the Bradwell Abbey Exchange?
I am located in Monkston, Milton Keynes. Could the wind be a problem???  Grin

Re: FTTP - download speed went superslow on the 3rd - still "down"

Well, I was only set up yesterday, and was getting DL speeds of 30-35 meg and UL of solid 8 meg until I went to bed last night.
Switched on this morning, and I'm getting DL of about 500 k (sic) and UL of about 5.5 meg.
So I ran the BT speed tester, and got totally different results - DL of 31.5 meg and UL of 5.5 meg.
I assume from this that the capping/throttling is being done by Plusnet.
Interestingly, after I was set up yesterday I was still getting DSL-like DL speeds, but a techie fixed that with the flick of a switch at PN Towers, so I'm wondering if some automation has kicked in and reset something.
I'm at the Sheffield Ranmoor exchange.

Re: FTTP - download speed went superslow on the 3rd - still "down"

OK, worse!!  Cry

This is after rebooting the ONT, router and laptop. For info I am connected via Ethernet.
I don't understand why the speedtest is showing me as ~150 miles from the server when I'm in Milton Keynes!
For me it's no biggie as I'm just browsing at the moment, but there clearly is a problem.
Please can someone at PN investigate?
Cheers

Re: FTTP - download speed went superslow on the 3rd - still "down"

For me , after the 12pm reboot, all is still well, still at expected speeds.
Now, here is an issue I have been thinking about for a while. I think that Plusnet should consider setting up an option for Fibre support in its telephone help service. Reason is that its very hard to get through to support at the best of times - which I can understand - resource problems, peak flows of problems etc etc - but for Fibre we end up in the regular queue and then we are told its a specialist issue and get diverted over again to people who can help - or told that they will call us, etc.
As with this problem. I could not get  through to anyone who would acknowledge the issue and throughout this period there has been no feedback from the fibre folks. For a period on Friday my service was so slow that it was hampering my work. Having no feedback from Plusnet did not help at all - I was wondering whether to plug my adsl router back in again - didnt know quite what to do!.
So, even though its a trial, I think that support for fibre people is an issue that Plusnet should resolve - not only for the long term when its a more normal service - but also for now to keep in touch with us trialists. They may say well thats what this forum is for - but as you see, no-one from PN has been into this post yet - and its quite old now - way too long for an actual service problem. I also raised a question on support - two days ago - and no response from support.
Support exists to reassure the client that a) they understand there is a problem and b) its being looked at. So far thats not happened and thats the area for improvement within Plusnet  that I see.

Re: FTTP - download speed went superslow on the 3rd - still "down"

Me again.
I want to stress that I am very pleased with the help I have had to date - but I think help should start to devolve from a couple of very helpful individuals to a more structured and formal fibre support function.
Hope that helps put things into perspective.

Re: FTTP - download speed went superslow on the 3rd - still "down"

Well, further to my reply yesterday, I haven't seen any problems and I'm also on the Bradwell Abbey exchange.
Today I ran speed tests using mybroadbandspeed.co.uk:
at 12.38 it was 75 Mb/s down and 15 Mb/s up
at 14.37 was 89 Mb/s down and 15 Mb/s up.

Yes, I'm on fibre. I belong. Wink
ETA: I just recycled the Outreach box and my speeds are restored to 34 meg down and 8.5 meg up. I have learned that there are two boxes to be bounced now when I have problems. <<embarassed>>

Re: FTTP - download speed went superslow on the 3rd - still "down"

I'm back!!  Cheesy
I just power cycled the ONT and router before testing after the magic hour of midnight.

Dave - do you have any idea what could be causing these temporary glitches? It doesn't appear to affect everyone, given the posts in this thread.
I have also done some isposure testing yesterday and today. My results are attached.
Cheers
