FTTC 3 Netgear Routers for testing

Hi,
I've got 3 Netgear routers for testing on FTTC, 2 WNR2000s and a WNRD3700.
First come, first served again. Give me a shout if you fancy trying one out.

I'll try any of those Dave, the WNRD3700 looks a bit fancy so I'd love to give it a go.

Hi Dave I've still been trying the 585vn, off and on, but happy to give another one a try.

Re: FTTC 3 Netgear Routers for testing

I'm in. If possible.
The tompson router you sent me has had its own issues the last week. Wifi deciding not to accept connections anymore prompting a factory reset and just now my download speeds seem to be stuck around 0.2 mb.
That last bit is probably NOT a router fault though.
Anyway, count me in if there is still space to be counted.

Count me in if one is still available...
I have previously asked for a new router to enhance wireless performance with no luck so far ... perhaps this time eh?

Re: FTTC 3 Netgear Routers for testing

tomm - you've got the WNRD3700
hulls - Thomson have got a new version of the firmware which should resolve the problems you're seeing, we should get that next week, Matt will send you a ticket when we've got it so that leaves
intertree and bluewhale - you get the WNR2000s
rtjones2 - you're in luck, I have a ZyXEL NBG4604 so I'll send you that
nibor - doesn't seem much point in sending you one as that's the best of the routers you've already got I think.

Re: FTTC 3 Netgear Routers for testing

Hi Dave,
The WNDR3700 arrived and was fairly easy to setup. It automatically checks for and updates the firmware so I let it do the upgrade to the latest firmware which was straightforward.
I've setup port forwarding for the xbox and given the xbox a static IP. I've configured the Wifi N 2.4GHz and the Wifi N 5GHz bands and run some speed tests.
Today 14:06  36617 kbps (4.58MB/s)  7748 kbps (969kB/s)  Wifi N - 2.4Ghz
Today 14:06 34294 kbps (4.29MB/s) 8236 kbps (1.03MB/s) Wifi N - 2.4Ghz
Today 14:05 34519 kbps (4.31MB/s) 8319 kbps (1.04MB/s) Wifi N- 5Ghz
Today 14:04 33643 kbps (4.21MB/s) 8309 kbps (1.04MB/s) Wifi N- 5Ghz
Today 14:02 35727 kbps (4.47MB/s) 8323 kbps (1.04MB/s) Ethernet connected
Today 14:02 35398 kbps (4.42MB/s) 8320 kbps (1.04MB/s) Ethernet connected
The wireless testing was done with my laptop right next to the router. I have done a performance test using both Wifi bands from my office which is the other side of a 'proper' wall, brick/insulation/breeze block construction. In that test the 2.4GHz band achieved 29959kbps and the 5GHz band achieved 27034. So still pretty darned good Smiley.
The above were the best results there was a little bit of randomness and the speed test seemed to work better if run once the connection had been up for a minute or two.
It certainly blows away the TG585 which was struggling for a signal in my office and at best would only achieve about 12Mb in my testing.
Thanks, Tom.

Re: FTTC 3 Netgear Routers for testing

hi,
the netgear arrived today have just setup and was straight forward for me as similar to my old netgear.
might want to warn people about the default password being 'password' although remote config is off by default.
well loads better than the thompson and thats still suing g wireless, haven't used the new N stick that came with it yet.
may not even bother with the stick for now as this is already running as fast as the main connection near enough
wonder what to do with the old thompson...small doorstop ;-)
anyway thanks for sending out Dave, will give an update in a few days regarding stability, wonder what a G type cable netgear would be like, have to keep an eye on freecycle
new test

old test

couldn't resist now tested with usb stick and slightly faster again

cheers
pete
