FTTC 24 days in - slowing down

Recently speeds have been dropping, last night saw a download speed of around 12mbps where it used to be 38mbps, upload speed appears to be unchanged Huh

Re: FTTC 24 days in - slowing down

Hi,
We've seen a few areas seeing slower speeds, particularly in the evening. Does the speed go back to normal outside of peak hours?

Re: FTTC 24 days in - slowing down

Hi Dave,
No I havent checked outside of peak hours as the speed was always good even during peak times..
I will re-test at a 'quiter' period.
Is it worth re-booting the modem and/or router ?

Re: FTTC 24 days in - slowing down

Hi Dave,
I've seen a slow down in the download speeds I've been seeing...  It's not as dramatic as JasonE, but I'm only 11 days into 'being active of FTTC'.  I was initially seeing consistenty high end 30s (e.g. 37mbps, 38mbps), whereas now seeing low 30s (e.g. 31mbps, 32mbps) on a wired connection.  Wireless is comparable if I'm near the router, but drop significantly if I'm at the other end of the house...
Obviously I'm still seeing considerably better than I was getting with ADSL, but would interested to know why speeds seem to have dropped  Undecided
Cheers,
James

Re: FTTC 24 days in - slowing down

My speeds have returned to normal of their own accord.
I hear that a reboot during the early days usually fixes most speed issues.

Re: FTTC 24 days in - slowing down

I too have noticed a slowdown.  Frequent tests (speedtest.net) conducted at varying times over a wired connection between 4th November and ~23rd December were rock solid at 33.6mbps down and 8.1mbps up.  I noticed a slowdown after the Xmas break and resumed testing.
RESULTS
3rd Jan 12:45pm:  24.99 down, 8.10 up
4th Jan    2:38pm:  28.24  down, 8.13 up
4th Jan    2:51pm:  28.19 down,  8.16 up (after re-boot of BT's EchoLife HG612 modem and Netgear WNR100 router)
5th Jan    1:09am:  28.20 down,  8.11 up
So download speed has mysteriously fallen between 16% and  25%.
