Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

Quick update on 80Mbps for you, we've just opened it up internally for staff just to see how things go first and all being well I'll be posting something next week for everyone else that wants to take part.

Where will you post it, and how do we express interest/sign up?
Is there any news on what the costs for this might be beyond the end of the trail in April?

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 67.4Mbps and upstream line speed of 20Mbps.

My exchange is already 80/20 enabled, but it is not on the trial list, so can someone at PN let me know when I can use the extra bandwidth and what if any cost increase there will be?

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

I should think that all the cabinets are updated to the 17a profile which gives the higher attainable speeds but they're only 'enabled' on the Exchanges on the list.  The BT Wholesale checker was updated recently to reflect what will be available, but still not necessarily available just yet.

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

@walker23 - spot on.
The DSL checker first changed for the 17a profile last week, but results were capped within a 40/20 limit. BT announced that they had meant to cap the upstream at 10 (so displaying 40/10), and would change that this weekend.
For my old line, the checker now seems to have exactly this change in place - it went from 30/6 last June, to  30/11 last November, to 40/11 last week. It now reads 40/10. Definitely a cap on the upstream.
However, it seems that this change isn't entirely consistent.
For my new line (shorter), the checker is now reading 55/18, where last week it was reading 40/18 (and was 29/12 before that). No cap on either!

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

Yep,
Mine's currently suggesting that I could achieve 60.5 down and 20 up, the router says max attainable is nearly 73down and 32 up (sync is 40 down ans 2 up), BT's Infinity checker says 40 down and 10 up.
I'm still on 37Mb PN 'Line Speed' so have still never got above 35down on a speedtest though to be honest it doesn't exactly impact our internet use even with the kids leeching bandwidth for all they're worth.

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

Mine's changed to today from 40/20 to 58.1/20. I really hope it's more than 58 in reality as I'm not sure that will be worth paying the extra for. My download estimate before the recent changes was 31.2, I actually get full sync at 40, with an effective max of 37.5.

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

Caps have been put back on the BT Wholesale checker today, so it's showing 40/10.
