80/20 FTTC trial

I've just joined the trail, my line has been switched and have done the first seeped check and managed 61952kbps down and 14408 up  Cheesy
My cabinet is around 500m away. I'll post more stats in due course. I'll also post data from my SamKnows monitoring unit.

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

Just for curiosity, are any users who achieve LESS than 40Mb sync speeds taking part in the 80/20 trial?

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

My Sync was 38716 down and my download speed averaged out at around 32 to 35mbps, so I would say yes Baldeagle1

As profile 17c is a pre-requisite for the 80/20 trial, anyone with a sync lower than 40 (on 17c) would see no difference (on downstream at least) as the 40Mb limit is simply a rate cap applied by BT.  Profile 17c is capable of up to 80/20 speeds (or more) but is currently sold to ISPs as either 40/10 or 40/2 (PN only offer 40/2 except for those lucky enough to have got on the original FTTC trial who get 40/10), after the trial I assume that 80/20 will be added as a separate product.
I'm not happy about this because some idiot at BT Wholesale left my exchange off the first phase trial list, my router says my max connection speed is around 77/17, would have been nice to see if it was accurate  Angry

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

Here's mine whilst wired to the router:

For some reason though our own speedtester struggles to get above a certain speed:

And these were done across two 300Mbps Powerline adapters:

Not sure where my local cabinet is but my line syncs at the full 20Mbps up, 80Mbps down and that's with a 66Mbps estimate.
To say I'm happy with it would be somewhat of an understatement! Cheesy

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

ashgeo  - looking good!
One note, which a couple of other people on the trial have seen is that the speeds haven't always increased, if you or anyone else sees this then switch the BT modem off for 1 minute and reboot your router and it will trigger the profiles on the BT side of the network to be recalculated when you reconnect.
Baldeagle1 - I think they were all there or thereabouts
The rest of the exchanges are due to the enabled in the next few weeks and once they're ready we'll be looking to opening up the trial to anyone that wants to take part. We'll post details of how and any costs nearer the time.

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

After just over 24hrs on the 80/20 trial I have attached the info from my SamKnows monitoring unit (who still think I'm on the 40meg service, hence the red line on the downlaod chart). I think the attached photos are self explainitory.....
You can clearly see the impact of the PN evening traffic management on the download speeds!

If Plusnet are interested in trialing users with sub-40 Mb connections (sub-30Mb in my case), I'd be interested in taking part.
I believe ADSL24 are trialing a number of users who currently sync as low as 15Mb.
(Not too sure about paying for it though)  Wink
I'll provide plenty of detailed feedback & connection stats (just ask Alex R about that aspect) ;D.
FWIW, my DS speed estimate (from BT's Infinity checker) was 14.6Mb pre-install, profile 8c. It then went to 24 Mb when profile 17a was introduced, & has recently changed (in the last few days) to 30 Mb.

Presumably you're on Value Fibre ans that's the 20Mbps rate limit as per the info here?

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

@Bob
I can confirm that I am on "Plusnet Extra Fibre" and the traffic management has the impact as I've posted and has done ever since I went to FTTC last April. If you would like further stats then I can message you with them or post them here.
It is also interesting to note that all the speedtesting sites show wildly fluctuating values at all times of the day!

George

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure what you were seeing was intended behaviour. Regarding the speedtest observation, mine vary somewhat too however the powerline connection from my main desktop to the router does limit my throughput to around the 50Mbps mark. Also, if I'm wired to the router I find that our speedtest tops out at around 60Mbps whereas speedtest.net will return the full 75Mbps.

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

I was on the original FTTC trial and am currently getting ~35Mbps. I'd be up for inclusion in the 80/20 trial.

Re: 80/20 FTTC trial

Hi,
I would like to be included for the trial also, currently connected at 37mb d/l with 1.7mb upload!
