Check your phone. If you have no dial tone then report a phone fault.

That's your decision but you may have problems getting Plusnet to look at the fault if you're not prepared to do the basic diagnostic tests. They hardly cost the earth https://www.argos.co.uk/product/5529610

Ok, so i found a old phone i had.
i'm sure i can hear noise on the line.
However i also reset the power line adapters i have (all BT600 units)
i then reset the router for the 3rd time and hey presto the speed was back to around 75mb.
thinking i'd cracked i then left everything running.
a few hours later and i'm back via the power-line adapters to 20mb.
wifi speeds remain as they have always been, however i hate wifi and would prefer a wired connection.
so the question is, can these go bad ? and bar going round switching everything off, is there any obvious way to diagnose ?
do the plus net routers have a habit of perhaps slowing the connection ? after a period of time
obviously clutching at straws, but i'm trying to avoid a £65 call out charge .

The only real test is to use a PC connected directly to the modem router with an ethernet cable, this will elliminate anything else like dodgy powerline adaptors and wifi... if the hard wired PC gives good results consistently but the powerline adaptor connected equipment doesn't then you know the problem is the powerline adaptors.
I've had a couple powerline adaptors go bad and have since stopped using them and run an ethernet cable to those rooms. Do your have any diagnostic software to show their performance (that's the connection between adaptors)
Dial 17070 for the BT line test, choose quiet line option and listen, you should hear a fairly good quality 'silent' connection without crackles or noise... if that's a noisy connection it can indicate a line issue that could affect broadband.
You need to be sure that the problem is the broadband and not your own internal connections, powerline adaptors or wifi.... yes the modem router could go bad, personally I bought a spare to quickly diagnose / elliminate whenever a problem occurs and it's never bad to have a spare.
Finally, plug the modem directly into the test socket (if you don't have a dual socket VDSL/Phone socket)

Powerline devices can be very problematic and affected by noise picked up on the mains. I had nothing but trouble with these (and wireless) causing buffering problems. In the end I installed Ethernet cable and never looked back. I did do some testing in my house, the results are here. https://community.plus.net/t5/Tech-Help-Software-Hardware-etc/Powerline-Unit-Performance/m-p/1607450...
The question has to be whether your slow downs are as a result of using these, hence the need to test over a ‘proper’ wired Ethernet link.

baldrick1, i dont disagree.
i've tried the BT quite line option, and i can hear a crackle. which i'm sure is not correct.
i've had the BT Ethernet extenders for a bit, and they have always proved reliable.
that's not to say they are'nt now fault.
Thing is as i have quite a few 6+ , replacing them isn't cheap.
neither would the charge be for the engineer.
i have a new router en route, so will try that when it arrives.
then i guess a new pair of extenders,
then the engineer.
