speed 70mbs to 40mbs

hello all
i am running wireless and i was getting speeds of around 70mbs download but since today i am only getting 40mbs any idea if i run it wires i get 70 again just not wireless anymore, any ideas please.

If I've read that right, you get 70MBps on a wired connection but 40MBps on a wireless connection? If so that sounds about right.

Thanks for the reply up until today I have been getting 63mbs download on a wireless connection and today it went down to 40 just wondering why that is

Wireless isn't reliable and the throughput speed can vary a lot, depending on environmental conditions, neighbouring networks etc.

I am on channel 6 everyone else is on 1 I checked with them also nothing else is connected to the Internet I can't see why it would drop thatch on 1 day that's crazy

Hi Duckman,
This type of drop in speed can be attributed to a fair few forms of interference so it may not be a case if just checking the channels of neighbouring wireless networks in order to resolve this issue. I would suggest switching between the channels manually if possible and see if you have any variation in speed tests on each one, hopefully this should result in you finding a better channel where higher speeds can be attained.
There are also a few tweaks that can be implemented which can improve the wireless throughput on npr's website if you're using the Thomson TG582n and you're comfortable with using Telnet to access the router and make changes.
