slow fibre

Hi all, i had fibre installed yesterday, couldnt wait for fast download speeds, how disappointed was I. my previous adsl bb said i was getting 7.6 mb a sec dl, and when i dl movies they came down at 1.7mb a sec. New fibre suggests dl speed of 33 5 mb a sec, pretty good but when i dl movies the best i have obtained is 1mb a sec and as low as 700kb a sec, as you can imagine i am very disappointed with my fibre, I would have been better sticking with my old bb, any help would be great thanks.

Re: slow fibre

Hi shippo
I would check your current line speed at https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
It may still be set at your ADSL speeds. Plusnet are getting too regular in forgetting to update this after a FTTC install.
If the speed is now showing the newer FTTC speeds then you will need to log into your router and perform a disconnect/reconnect to get the new speed.
If it still showing the ADSL speed then contact Support
Ex - Plusnet Customer (2009 - 2023) now with BT

Re: slow fibre

Hi shippo Smiley
I've done some tests but I can't find any problems, you might find it fluctuating a bit for the first few days as it's newly installed. Keep an eye on it and let us know if the problem persists!

Re: slow fibre

Thanks, but why all the hype about fast fibre bb when it is anything but fast? Ihave been told by plusnet that i should be downloading between 3-4 mg per sec that is not so fast.

Re: slow fibre

Doesn't practical download speed (as opposed to speed test sites) depend on where you are downloading from?

Re: slow fibre

Hi Dave i dont really know, its the same site were i was getting 1.7 mb a sec from my adsl bb, i have only noticed a deteriation since getting fibre, no fast downloads for me. If this is how its going to be, i cant see the value in paying extra money for fibre,

Re: slow fibre

Which website are you trying to download from?
Can you post results from this? http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/speedtest2.html
Also what are your estimates from the wholesale checker? https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
Remember to blank out your phone number/postcode etc before you post the image

Couple of things to check, are you connected wirelessly?
