"waiting for www....................

We 'upgraded to fibre in the hope that connection times would be better than ADSL+.

Up and down loads seem to be faster but still takes ages to actually connect to most sites (even to the stage of timing out) which makes the 'upgrade' seem a waste of money.

Same thing happened with ADSL+ so is it Plusnet, our line, or something I'm missing. This very rarely happened before we moved here although we were with another ISP - perhaps we ought to change back!

Re: "waiting for www....................

Can you open a command prompt (if using Microsoft Windows) by performing the following:

Press the Windows Key and R at the same time, in the Run box that appears, type CMD and click OK

In the command prompt type IPCONFIG /ALL and then copy paste the results from the screen into this thread.

Re: "waiting for www....................

Another thought, can you also perform a tracert from the cmd prompt:

TRACERT WWW.GOOGLE.COM

And a second to:

TRACERT PORTAL.PLUS.NET

Please PM the results of those too.

Many thanks,

Steve

Re: "waiting for www....................

Thanks for the information provided.  From the details you have given you're using OPENDNS and the traceroutes are showing connectivity with good response times to both hosts.  Not really seeing anything that would affect slow web connectivity there.

Do you have any extensions within the browser that could be affecting performance?   Adblock? Antivirus?

If you can try to disable those and see if it makes any difference.  Try an alternative DNS just in case too.  IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS once changed.

If the experience is still poor after those checks, then also raise a fault at faults.plus.net as there may be errors on the line affecting performance or a VLAN issue that the faults team can investigate.

Many thanks for the ideas, I don't think the configuration has changed since moving, but I'll work through the suggestions hopefully over the weekend.

Re: "waiting for www....................

I've seen some slow response times from opendns lately on my Plusnet connection, which may or maynot be the cause of yor issue.

May be worth switching to Google DNS (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) or even Plusnet's own DNS servers.

Re: "waiting for www....................

Interestingly yesterday last log entry 17:15 NTP Success

Then No entries at 23:15 connecter back to Bt server!

during that period of NO Logs everything back to normal.

This Morning return of the lag 10 sec page loading times! and a log every 40secs or so!

So when not connected to remote management everything is ok! or can people access your devices through this door?
