just upgraded to fibre. Got the old defunct router sent again!

Got the engineer coming on wednesday  to install fiber.
Ive one of those old 582n up in the loft from 2012.
So on upgrade I was offered the new zero n hub for 5.99 delivery, so I took it.
Just got the old clunker 582n delivered.
What a waste of 5.99 that was.  why oh why?
rant over.

The 582n with the Fibre firmware isn't too horrendous but it isn't particularly awe inspiring either.
I suspect you'd also be quite disappointed with the new Zero hub - even with the "hidden" settings it isn't as configurable as the 582n.

Does the new router have gigabit ethernet connections?

Re: just upgraded to fibre. Got the old defunct router sent again!

So,
I phoned plus support to moan and got told that the old router is as good as the new router and to (very politely) beetle off.
I really hate getting stiffed with old tech.  I am over reacting I know.    Cheesy  Ho hum.
So, what router do I need to buy to get a proper wireless signal and connection?

I'd look at the Asus RT series - they seem to get good reviews. This has been discussed before on the forums though so you might want to have a search through.
I don't think you're over reacting to be honest - if you asked for the Zero hub you should have got one.

The TP Link ADSL/VDSL Fibre ready W9980 is £66 from Ebuyer right now so maybe worth considering?

Re: just upgraded to fibre. Got the old defunct router sent again!

Seems to have got favourable reviews apart from the person who brought the whole score down by giving it an overall good review but only marking 1 out of 10 ......
I'd certainly look at it as an option Smiley
*edit - I see he marked it down as he had wireless issues.

Re: just upgraded to fibre. Got the old defunct router sent again!

I created a ticket to request that plus net send the new router as promised.
Still no reply after 2 1/2 days.
Wonder how long Ill have to wait for an answer?
This is taking the shine of my fibre install tomorrow.  Feel unloved by plus net 😞
How long a cooling off period do I have. Can I still cancel now the engineer visit is booked for tomorrow?  Might have been better off going to talktalk after all.
Venting.......

I've got a 9980. Quite happy with it. And that price is very good.

Re: just upgraded to fibre. Got the old defunct router sent again!

I got the new one shortly after it was announced
I had a bit of a play and then went back to the old one because I can't do things with the new one which I could with the old
For example
Setting a device to a fixed IP address isn't possible directly although you can reallocate the DHCP range using the superuser option
Telnet is disabled so bang goes using any of the monitoring software such as Routerstats
Respond to ping is disabled so bang goes my BQM monitoring
It is now sitting unused and unloved.
It will however come in handy when I go fibre later this year as I can change it from ADSL mode to fibre mode and use it as a check against the VDSL router I intend to get
