intermitent speed

Hi,

I have moved house 2 weeks ago and i have intermitent speed fluctuations and a lag when i click on a web page.

The other day i was on the phone to a friend and i could hear clicking on my phone line.

I have logged into my router and it says something about dropped packets in the log.

Is there any one who could have a look at my line for me please.

Re: intermitent speed

If you have a noisy phone line  it can affect your broadband.

Try a quiet line test using 17070. If you hear noise then report a fault to whoever supplies the phone service.  If your service is from Plusnet then https://www.plus.net/help/phone/phone-line-troubleshooting/  Part of that sequence runs a system that can detect some phone faults and report then to Openreach automatically.

If the phone isn't noisy, then I would run through the checks at https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/connection-troubleshooting/ and report a fault at https://www.plus.net/apps/kbdfaults

Re: intermitent speed

Hmm... I too am getting a 404 error with my link (not entirely clear why) but not yours.

Navigate to Plus.net>help and support>phone>troubleshoot phone issues.

Re: intermitent speed

Sorry to hear you're having issues.

Our tests aren't showing any issues.

Can you confirm if this is over a wired or wireless connection?

Hi Matt,

I can confirm its over a wired connection.

Since i changed the supplied microfilter to another things seem to be a little better.

If i have any problems i'll get back to you.

Re: intermitent speed

Ok maybe it didnt fix it.

I did an ookla speed test which gives me a line speed of between 29 and 36 meg but every time it does the upload test my youview box freezes whilst watching catchup tv?

I did the test 3 times and youview froze each time.

The underground cable runs outside my house and up my wall where its fed from the black terminal box to a 4 meter  long phone line to my master box,Could it be a fault with the line or maybe my router?

Re: intermitent speed

You can't expect to run meaningful speed tests when there is other stuff happening on your line. Everything you do online requires bandwidth in both directions. For sensible results all other activity needs to be stopped when running a test. I wonder if this is a reason why many people here are complaining about speeds, they have tv streaming or photos uploading when doing speed tests which totally mess it up.Sad

Re: intermitent speed

I have done speed tests in the past whilst watching catchup tv and had no issues.

My point is with the speeds i am supposed to be getting my youview box and phone shouldnt be doing what it has been doing.
