A VPN would be a solution yeah, but you'd never get me using a free VPN service, which means looking at a paid solution for something that should be working anyway  Angry

Thanks
Never used to VPN (never needed to) so all new to me.
What would be wrong with a free VPN, Unreliable?
My asus router has a section for openVPN any use?
Thanks

I see it more as a privacy issue tbh.  If I'm going to be routing all my traffic through someone I want some contract in place!

What VPN do you use recommend?
Thanks

www.blu-ray.com is working fine for me, unlike the others mentioned. images.static-bluray.com seems to be internapcdn.net.

Re: imgur.com been slow all week now unreachable

ejs, some type of load balancing may be happening, as the site will load content when it is connecting to the other CDN(s).
Same goes for imgur, when it is trying to connect to hwcdn, it fails to load.

Re: imgur.com been slow all week now unreachable

I have spoken to them and they do know about this thread. They have passed this thread on to the network team to look into.
If we can provide anymore information in this thread it might make it easier for them. If someone knowledgeable could do a summery that would help too.

Re: imgur.com been slow all week now unreachable

Further to my earlier post, still finding imgur and thesecretworld are dire via Plusnet at the moment.  Has been an issue since at least early last week.  Been trying to use The Secret World patcher to download the full client (19gb+) and got about 1% through since Thursday.  Since folks mentioned VPNs were fixing the issue for them tried a free VPN service and have now got the client downloaded at full speed so it defo looks like some issue with Plusnet or something PN is going through to connect out into the rest of the net.  Turned the VPN off and those connections were back to being 1-2kb or just stalled again.
Hope to see this fixed soon, noticed over the last week there was an issue with a few other sites as well but just assumed it was those sites until today.
Doesn't seem to be a specific gateway either, reconnected a number of times today to gateway hop, had at least 5 different gateways (bng01, 02, 04 and a couple of non-bng ones) and it was the same issue for all of them.

Re: imgur.com been slow all week now unreachable

Thanks Bob, it's frustrating, browsing reddit and imgur is almost unusable. I don't get this on my mobile connection.

Re: imgur.com been slow all week now unreachable

Can anyone suggest a free vpn I can use till this fixes? I pay a subscription to nexusmods.com and of course I can't even use it at the moment.

Another complaint here that reddit/imgur is unusable this weekend.

So thats 0.16s to get an image via another ISP versus 2m18s via plusnet. Get it together!
edit: here's a possible fix for chrome users for imgur:

  • go to chrome://net-internals/#hsts in chrome

  • in the 'add domain' section type 'imgur.com' and click add

  • again in the 'add domain' section type 'm.imgur.com' and click add

this makes your browser rewrite all http requests to imgur to go via https, which cannot be man-in-the-middled by plusnet in such a botched way.
to undo the workaround go to that same chrome url and enter imgur.com and m.imgur.com into the delete section.

Re: imgur.com been slow all week now unreachable

I've only just switched to Plusnet and wondered why my experience was so awful by comparison to my previous ISP. Imgur and therefore Reddit has been unusable as often as not, which accounts for most of what I do on the internet. I strongly suspect this is at the root of other problems my family have been reporting since the switch. I can't believe that in 2016 a UK ISP is still using transparent proxies - seriously disappointed.
