capped p2p speed?

have been using plusnet unlimited fibre for about 4 months. my connection is an average of 37mbps.
my max download speed on p2p is 1.9mb, never higher. tried testing on some high seeded files like ubuntu.iso, never goes above 1.9mb, be it peak or off peak.
at my old address a few miles away, i was connecting at 37mbps with a max p2p download speed of 4.4mbs.
have contacted plusnet via chat, and all they could do was recommend the pro add on, which on further inspection, only seems to benefit older ADSL subs.
any ideas why my p2p isn't faster? would the pro add on be of any benefit to me?
thanks!

Re: capped p2p speed?

which port is your torrent client using?
have you specifically opened a port on the router for it? or are you relying on uPnP?

Re: capped p2p speed?

my client is using port 12182, which i take it is default as ive never changed it. haven't opened any ports on the router, and uPnP is enabled.

Re: capped p2p speed?

try getting the client to use a port in the 51xxx range via uPnP.
if that doesn't work then open up the port on the router, forward it to your client IP, and set the client to use a static port.

Re: capped p2p speed?

Have you restricted the P2P upload speed?

Re: capped p2p speed?

restricting the upload speed does not affect the download speed

the client (utorrent) has always been using a static port, i set it to 51756, and tried to open up that port on the router, but still no luck.
EDIT: and then....after a moment or two...  now dl has now crept up to 2.5mbs, so summat must be working... disabled uPnP and NAT/port mapping, so that must have helped. many thanks for the info chenks Smiley

Re: capped p2p speed?

you said previously the port was 12182.
you say you "tried" to open the port? did you actually open it and then forward it to the IP address of your client?
did you then tell utorrent to use that static port and not to use uPnP?

Wrong!
If the upload is being maxed out by too many people downloading from you it restricts the ability of the download process sending back acknowledgements and the download speed is impacted.
