asus dsl-ac68-u help please

Can any of the care team please look into why im getting disconnected after buying this all in one modem router? we game a fair bit so decided to splash out on a expensive piece of kit.  we get disconnects often , dsl light goes down , and there is a constant yellow 'instable connection' exclamation mark in the routers dashboard.  i used the correct user id and password , it the same both wireless and wired , works for a while then bombs us off ! i shall be on the phone with asus asap and would like some stats / info to throw at them , as its a bit expensive to just bin it. my plusnet account is haydnexportnew.

Re: asus dsl-ac68-u help please

I've just found these posts on the BT Forum which may help:
Quote
try these settings
Stability Adjustment (VDSL): disabled
Tx Power Control (VDSL): disabled
Rx AGC GAIN Adjustment (VDSL): stable
UPBO - upstream power back off (VDSL): enabled
SRA (Seamless Rate Adaptation): enabled
Bitswap: disabled
VDSL Profile: 17a
Improved Impulse Noise Protection (G.998.4): enabled

Quote
I see talk in another forum that it is the bitswap option that causes the instability. Turning this off stablises the line.

Re: asus dsl-ac68-u help please

The first thing I'd try is putting the BTO modem back on the line with your old router and see if you still get the drops.
If you do, report the line fault and get it fixed before trying the Asus again. If you don't then take it up with Asus.
Plusnet only officially support the router they supply (though they do try to help with others). They are unlikely to be able to report a line fault if you're not using the modem provided as part of the service.

Re: asus dsl-ac68-u help please

Be careful with the Asus.
You'll end up causing DLM to intervene if you have too many disconnects in a 24 hour period.

Re: asus dsl-ac68-u help please

its not dropping sync just the session , so i think it must be router side of things but i have no idea what to change .  I have redone setup with bt infinity 2 settings instead of the plusnet fibre one in the asus menu and its looking a bit better.

Re: asus dsl-ac68-u help please

what seems to work for me is to manually drop the session for 10 minutes then reconnect. In router gui its the green double monitor/computer icon below the language setting, click it and it will allow you to drop the session.
If im right you get a high amount of CRC error. by doing the above i have only had 5 CRC in 2 days of uptime

Re: asus dsl-ac68-u help please

Yes, BT haven't implemented the 30a profile yet ( if ever! ). You would have thought it ( the ASUS ) would negotiate down to something that was supported, maybe VDSL doesn't do that ( unlike ADSL )

Re: asus dsl-ac68-u help please

The fault seems connected to the log message "WAN Connection: Ethernet link down."
Yet this is an all-in-one device, so the WAN isn't an Ethernet link... At least not one that exists outside the box.
The OP observed that the fault didn't cause a resync, just the loss of the PPP session. If true, it would seem strange that a config shift between 17a and 30a would solve the problem; if the modem portion thought there was a problem related to the 17a profile vs 30a profile, then it would surely resync!
Sounds like the Asus isn't quite ready for the primetime...
