Re: You couldn't make this up!

Oh dear, are other people using the Internet upsetting people's speedtest results? I can only begin to imagine the horrors of not getting full speed on each and every speed test that some people seem to need to run every 3 minutes. It seems like the people further away from their cabinets, perhaps only getting 20-30Mb speeds, don't seem to complain as much.
I thought there was option of paying extra for WBC Elevated, with a minimum planned throughput of 60Mb rather than 40Mb (for a full speed 80Mb line).

Re: You couldn't make this up!

In any case, the bottom line with all this is that everyone is free to choose whether they want a low cost service, or pay more for a premium service. To the people that complain internet is too cheap and it makes for a poor service, by all means go join A&A where you may get the service you are willing to pay for. As for PN and the like offering the really cheap deals, why do you think they do that? Because that is what the customers want. You can blame PN for offering it, or you can blame customers for taking it, but that is how business works. The complainers' arguments may have more credibility if there was no alternative, but there is.

Re: You couldn't make this up!

Re-posted below from one of my replies a while back on the business cycle of a product:
This the way broadband as a market has evolved - as do all markets.
It starts off as a niche/higher priced/early adopters product.
Then it becomes more mainstream with multiple other players now in the marketplace all with different offerings and addons.
Finally as competition becomes more severe and the number of genuine 'new' customers reducing the product now is just a mass market commodity like petrol, we get price, product and service cuts - as price and best deal on the day becomes the sole objective of consumers with no interest in long term considerations (ie future fault repairs).
At this point we also get mergers and rationalisations as the new lower priced 'market rate' for the product can only be sustained by huge companies with economies of scale.
We also see growth for growth's sake becomes the dominant force as each of the now fewer product provider seeks to maximise their market/customer capture numbers - 'cos if you don't do it the competition will.  There are now no genuine "never before" new customers and growth can only be sustained via 'churn' ie pinching customers from other providers via short term special offers.
At this point only the big will survive and all the smaller player and local providers have gone or been takeover as the quest for market dominance becomes the driving force.
They may well be within such a market a place for a high priced niche players who can offer some sort of special service if there are enough customers willing to pay - such as AAISP in broadband, or for another example specialist Hi-fi-shops who will give you a bespoke package/home setup.  However it maybe that these niche players also go to the wall leaving the few and ever dwindling number of customers who were willing to pay for exemplary service totally out of luck. (Petrol stations with attendants who will fill your car up for you and take your money being one totally lost service).

Stuck profile

Can someone please take a look at my profile as it would seem since provisioning me on the incorrect package 40/10, this was rectified over night and I'm now on the correct 80/20 package however my actual download speed is stuck at the 38Mbps as  you can see below.
I've just spoken to your 1st line support again and they don't seem to understand this at all.

Re: Stuck profile

Hi go here and see if the plusnet profile has updated to match the BT IP profile it maybe the case it  hasn't  https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
if it hasn't hopefully one of the CRT will be around to update it manually for you.

Re: Stuck profile

OK well I got PlusNet to sort the profiling issue out and after a reboot it's now showing 47Mbps with a connection speed of 49Mbps however my actual throughput hasn't budged and is stuck below 38Mbps, see below.
All because PlusNet provisioned me incorrectly last week, not at all impressed with this at all especially given some of the answers from the telephone (so called) support staff I've been given of late.

Re: You couldn't make this up!

Well it's now 5 days since I was re-profiled incorrectly and my profile has now increased from 47Mbps to 49Mbps but my actual download speed is still stuck at around 38Mbps:
Telephone number:0191XXXXXXX
Phone exchange:SUNDERLAND NORTH
Estimated line speed:32Mb (Download speed could vary depending on line conditions.
Estimates are the maximum speeds that your phone line can support. These speeds are dependent on the package you choose.)  - Checked on 2015-10-05 17:35:27
Current line speed:49 Mb
1 week is enough time to wait to get this sorted so Friday is my deadline, if not sorted by then I'll be calling the retentions team.  Angry

Re: You couldn't make this up!

Well it's taken 9 days of constantly expediting PN to get this issue sorted but thanks to my last chat with Rikki, I'm now seeing the correct speed for me profile so my thanks go out to him personally. The issue was although my profile was eventually changed to 80/20 my account still stated I was on Unlimited Fibre not Unlimited Fibre Extra which I pointed out some 4 days ago without getting a reply even after contacting PN every day.
Some of the things I've been told/advised by other PN staff in those 9 days since being incorrectly provisioned on 40/10 are:
1. BT have lowered the speeds in your area (total lies!)
2. Your speeds are within the estimates (maybe but some 12Mbps lower than my profile and the speeds I've been achieving for the last 3 years? (Totally unacceptable)
3. Testing is fine (49Mbps profile and 38Mbps actual download, contact us if your speed is less than 25.92Mbps (my max FTTC A (Clean) is 44.6 and my lower 32.4Mbps), where did this come from?
4. Stalling tactics in PN responses.
The moral is just because your profile is 80/20 don't assume you are in fact on 80/20 and don't believe what you are told, stick with it and provide the evidence and don't give up until you get the right outcome.
So to sum up, thanks to Rikki for listening and sorting this out for me very much appreciated and it was a pleasure chatting with him, some other PN staff either need further training or at the very least a warning for lying to customers.
My speeds today just prior to Rikki's intervention and again after he sorted it for me:
