WiFi speed has slowed since connected phone to line

Hi all

It seems my download speed has dropped recently to around 14mbps (according to
Speedtest)

Previously it has been stable at around 20mbps.


The sync speed says 19mbps and line is capable of between 15-21mbps according to plusnet speed checker / router.

I have recently installed a phone into the micro filter phone socket, could this be part of the problem?

Is it a cordless phone? If so, Is the phone base unit sited next to the router? Are you using a wireless connection to do your speedtest? If yes to these then possibly yes. Before going any further disconnect the phone, inluding any power supply to the base unit if there is one and repeat the speed test.

Speed test has been completed without basestation powered up (I had to power cycle the router as well).

The speed seems to have returned to normal.

Is this a micro filter issue or a base station issue? Should we move the base station to further away from the router or vice versa?

Try moving the base station further away if possible and try a speed test again, if it doesn't solve the problem then replace micro-filter. It's a process of elimination. (mine turned out to be a faulty micro-filter).

It could also be the telephone power supply. Try plugging that in further away. Another thing to try is manually selecting a different Wireless channel on the router. As Pete11 says, it's a process of elimination.

In the end I moved the router away from the base station and this seems to have done the trick. Thanks for everyone’s help.
