Why will Plusnet not upgrade me to 76MB package when other ISPs can?

The subject says it all really:  my estimated download speed is 32-44MB, meaning that I could go to a higher unlimited package to be able to squeeze more download speed out.  When checking online via Vodafone, BT Infinity and Zen, they offer the 76MB package.  However, when speaking to PlusNet earlier, they say that they can't offer me this package as "their supplier doesn't offer it."  I'm in contract until June, and at this stage I'm thinking I'll leave as I can't understand why 3 other ISPs can offer me the increased package, whereas PlusNet can't.
I'd be really grateful for some answers on this from PlusNet tech support please.
Many thanks!

If your estimate is only 32-44 you would be better off with another supplier anyway that offers the 40/10 package.
Plusnet screwed up big time when they stopped offering 40/10.

The really annoying thing is that the only competitive 40/10 offering is Sky and the base price is the more than Plusnet's 80/20
Note that TalkTalk is also 40/2

Thanks Oldjim & nightstalk3r.  PlusNet, I really would like an explanation from you as to why you can't offer me the 80/20 package please.
Many thanks.

it's because your estimated download speed is 32-44MB.
why would they offer you 80/20 when you can't get above 44Mbps at best.

Your best bet is to go on to the 40 Mbps product and see what you actually sync at. If it is less than 40 it's pointless going to the 80 as you would still have the same sub 40 sync.
If the attainable sync reported once you are connected is significantly more than 40 then it would be worth asking to upgrade.

Because they don't want to.
PN have decided not to supply 80/20 to anyone who can't definitely get above 40Mb/s downstream. We might all think it's a bit odd (or even more odd that they don't offer 40/10) but that's the way they choose to run their business and entirely their right.

@markhp
Given that Plusnet will not supply 80/20 and that you feel that 40/2 will not meet your requirements then I would not use Plusnet for FTTC as you will be locked into an 18 month minimum contract to which you have ill feelings. Not going to end well in my opinion.

or even more odd that they don't offer 40/10

'odd' isn't the word I'd use - bonkers maybe, or even something much stronger.

If he could get over 40Mb which his estimate states be it only 4Mb then he should be offered the 80 / 20 package the reason Plusnet do not is because they only go by the lowest number in the estimate the likes of BT ect do not they take the whole range into account BT even give a minimum guarantee which is surprising.

Re: Why will Plusnet not upgrade me to 76MB package when other ISPs can?

It may only be a few but some customers will specifically want the 'Extra' simply to get better than 2Mb/s upstream - if the customer fully understands that there's no guarantee they'll get better than their lower downstream estimate and is happy to pay more for what they will gain in upstream then it's a bit daft not to allow that.

Re: Why will Plusnet not upgrade me to 76MB package when other ISPs can?

correction not applicable.
i can see sense in not offering 80/20 to a customer who's range could creep below 40Mbps. it just opens up a can of unnecessary support worms.
no matter what you told a customer, you'd still end up with complaints about only getting 38Mbps and paying for 80.
with regards to 55/10, well that's a new product and i haven't seen many ISPs offering it as of yet.
