Re: Where to start

Sorry to hear you've been having issues.

Our tests aren't showing any cause for this.

Is it still happening today?

Yes, that’s a pretty much standard log for us

Re: Where to start

Having particular problems with one device disconnecting this afternoon.
The device (an iPad) that is playing up, is not the device showing in the event log (an iPhone) as giving problems. The times for the disconnects happening and the device being physically dropped are spot on and we can watch them happen and log simultaneously
The device showing in the event log as getting disconnected IS NOT physically connected as it’s wifi is turned off. This is confirmed on the home screen as it’s not shown on the home screen and on the network screen it also says it’s not currently connected
Hope this makes sense

Re: Where to start

I'm not sure whether you are saying that your internet connection (from you to the rest of the world) is dropping, or the connection between your ithings and the hub is dropping. There have been reports that some kit - particularly Apple kit - can get confused by the hub broadcasting wifi on 2 frequencies and switching from one to the other, or even dropping the connection to the hub. Whatever is happening on your system, it might be worth separating the two signals. @bill888 has posted how to do that at https://community.plus.net/t5/My-Router/Devices-stop-working-on-5-GHz-connection-Wifi-drops/m-p/1395...

Re: Where to start

They had been independent for some time but the 5ghz has actually been disabled for some weeks now
The hub is only about 3 foot away from the device although I cannot test on Ethernet

Re: Where to start

Thanks for the extra information.

Just to confirm have you also tried changing the wireless channel and following the tips here?

Re: Where to start

Not sure if this helps but using the WiFi scanner is giving me this. There is a 12 second refresh and each time different and new connections show. Every so often my hub disappears coinciding with drops on devices

Re: Where to start

Hi there,

Have you checked to see if this also happens over a wired connection to the router? - Adam

Re: Where to start

We only used wired for WD cloud backup. I can if you like but not sure how to progress to see as this is a WiFi scan. I’m probably being a bit dense

Re: Where to start

The wireless scanner refreshing is absolutely fine as it's just checking the signal strength of your router and other routers. As wireless is a varying signal it refreshes every 12 seconds to see how it's performing.

Re: Where to start

Yes I understand that...the point I was making was the next bit of the sentence where my hub does not show but 3 new ones are added, next refresh all those may disappear and a no name will be added together with 4 or 5 previously not present on the list before. Next refresh still no signal listed for mine all others listed disappear again and pull in 5 different ones list and so on and so forth. There are at least 25 different ones listed and I live in a village not the centre of a major town

Re: Where to start

That's normal to see as there may be routers that signal strength briefly pops up but then drops off again

It shouldn't cause any issues but it's worth checking the channels other routers are on.

Re: Where to start

I’m sorry for sounding a little tense but all this information is with you from my post last night. To summarise against your latest post
My router disappears and that’s when the devices drop off the internet
The other routers are on the same channel - see the screenshot they are also on the same frequency -see the other screen shot and when one changes they all change. That is if I move my routers channel the gaggle of other routers listed will move too.
When going to select a network if you lose the connection you are presented with a list of routers (my devices are set to only use known networks) you have to wait for a part of the cycle where your own router actually is shown. If you time it too slowly, you will be told that your (stored) password is incorrect. You know this will happen if your router disappears before you hit connect. If this happens you have to wait for it to appear again and if it remains there your password (the same one that was incorrect just now) will be accepted
Bearing in mind that a Skype account keeps appearing on my computers and when logging onto various accounts with devices I’ve had for years triggers the “you have a new device” messages I feel a certain trepidation that I am joined to another network or vice versa.
Also in previous posts I have mentioned blue tooth seems to give many issues and that you can see a Bose speaker on the networks on the screen shot I’m also wondering if that’s involved
Hope this lists all the points that have been missed
Thanks
