What is my upload/download rate?

Hello,

Is there a way through Member Centre to see what the upload/download rate is for the package I'm on?

All I can see if that I'm on "Unlimited Fibre" and I know I switched from the 80Mb package I originally had to the 40Mb one because the extra wasn't worth it (best I could get was 47Mb when wired to the router).

The reason I want to know is because I'm out of contract and my Line Rental Saver runs out at the end of this month, so I'm looking at what's available. The offers on the plus.net homepage look better with the included line-rental... I'm assuming this is available to existing customers? But I'd like to avoid having a lower upload capacity, albeit, at present, I don't particularly need it but it has been helpful in the past when I've needed to upload entire websites quickish! Cheesy

Anyway... I'll stop rambling now!

Re: What is my upload/download rate?

Hi @peter6000, sorry to hear you're having speed issues. Checking the connection from this side we are seeing no drops in the last 88 days and the full 40Mbps download and 10Mbps upload getting to the router with no signs of errors.
I'm leaning towards the cause of the lower speeds to be wireless interference then as I imagine the speed test you ran to have been done over wireless?
If so then I'd recommend running a wired speed test just to be sure and if everything is pointing towards wireless interference my guide on how to best optimize your wireless settings to suite the property is below.

The guide below will show you how to log into the router and change the wireless channel as it's usually another router in the area on the same or similar channel that will be causing issues for both wireless frequencies. Before picking a channel I'd suggest downloading a free app called wifi analyzer which will scan your area for all the routers and show what channels they are on between 1-13. Although the above app isn't essential it helps you pick where your router would be best in terms of channels and saves a lot of time doing it via trial and error.

1) To connect to your Plusnet Hub Zero, you will need to open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.254

If you have any issues doing this via Wireless, we recommend trying to do it via Ethernet cable instead.

2) Once you are connected, you will see the option that says 'Wi-Fi Network' with the name of your network followed by the 'Settings' button.

3) Please select 'Settings' and you will be asked to log in with the 'Router Password'. This password is found on the bottom of the router and is case sensitive. This password can also be found on the plastic card that came with the router.

4) The Channel is the key option that we need to look for, If this is on Auto then we will want to change this to one of the 13 channels listed on the drop down menu. This stage is all down to trial and error to find the best channel for you.

If we are experiencing issues on wireless, then it is recommended to change this to one of the 13 channels listed.

Let us know how it goes.

Re: What is my upload/download rate?

@BD I don't think the OP was complaining about speeds, he just wanted to know what product he was on which is obviously the Unlimited Fibre (40/10) service.

@peter6000 The website offers are for new customers only, you need to contact the Customer Options Team to get a deal as an existing customer.

Re: What is my upload/download rate?

Fix

Hi there.

From what I can see your package is Unlimited Fibre, though actually on a 55/10 profile on our systems.

This means that you would've been on 40mbps downstream and 20mbps upstream up until a few years ago (mid 2015 if memory serves me correct). When we discontinued that product we moved your account to 55mbps downstream and 10mbps upstream as a compromise. However your connection is still testing on a 40mbps profile as per @BD's post.

To correct this discrepancy, I've placed an order with our suppliers to move you on to 55/10. Whilst this won't change your upstream speed you're asking about, you may at least see an improved download rate subject to the length of your line etc. Judging from what you've said that you previously had speed around 47mbps you may see around that.

As @RealAleMadrid has advised if you would like to discuss a new deal/speeds, I'd recommend contacting our customer options team on 0800 013 2632. As I type this, there's currently absolutely no wait time and they're here until 8pm.

I hope this helps.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.
