Re: Was on 55/10 now on 40/10

Using Hub One flashed with LEDE 17.01.x for past 2 years.  I disable SQM whenever I want to test for maximum speeds over ethernet connection.

Re: Was on 55/10 now on 40/10

I forgot to add, if you run 'Further Diagnostics' after completing basic speed test at  http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ you will probably discover your IP profile is lower.

My IP profile used to be 53+ Mbps prior to May 2018, with speed tests returning 51-52 Mbps.

Now the IP profile is 50+ Mbps after May 2018, with speed tests returning just over 49 Mbps.

I suspect the issue is down to how the 55/10 line was re-provisioned back in May 2018, and not due to any sort of speed cap imposed by Plusnet.

Re: Was on 55/10 now on 40/10

Bill888 many thanks for your response,

I did the test you said, and my IP profile is 50.83MBps, and i'm seeing speeds between 48-49MBps, so the IP profile would explain what is happening.

Does anyone know how the IP profile is set, I presume it's happening at the BT / Open reach side and not Plusnet side.

Re: Was on 55/10 now on 40/10

That's bizarre as our tests are showing your IP profile as being around 52.3.

The BT IP profile is 96.7% of the sync speed your router is connected to the cabinet at which our tests is showing as 52.5mbps.

Can you provide a copy of your router stats and advise what the IP profile is showing as when you test it today?

Re: Was on 55/10 now on 40/10

Hi Matthew, I have just run the BT test Bill mentioned, the following is what i'm seeing.  This was done only a few minutes ago, and the IP profile of 50.83Mbps is still showing.  Screen shots under this post as attachments.

Also for some reason the BT speed test is showing a download speed of 39.6, but I have done a speedtest.net check moments later and received the 49Mbps.

Hi @JasonMassey, The IP profile seems about right. Following your results, the BT speedtest has a tendency to be inaccurate at times and I'd go based on the results from speedtest.net.

If you're in doubt, it might be worth cross referencing the speed tests from different sites, speedof.me etc

Re: Was on 55/10 now on 40/10

@JasonMassey

To add to this I'm having the same issue as you, was on 55/10 then moved incorrectly to 40/10 and then back to 55/10.

I'm now syncing at 54.997Mbps, my speedtests are around about 45Mbps, and the BT diagnostics are showing my IP profile as 50.83Mbps.

I'm not sure what any of that really means, but my sync and IP profile are the same as yours.

Re: Was on 55/10 now on 40/10

Hi Optimatts,

Just done a speed test on speedof.me and received 53.3Mbps, see attachment.  Never used that site before.

I wonder however how accurate speedof.me is as I was watching bandwidth in the my draytek, and the draytek reports peak speed of 48.5MBps, see other attachment.

Above aside, i'm not overly concerned about the IP profile being lower then it should in the post above.   I've had fibre broadband with Plusnet since 2013 it's always been very consistent speed and high quality, in over 5 years there has been no real issues, so overall i'm pretty happy with Plusnet, it would of been nice to see the IP profile speed higher that's all.

Re: Was on 55/10 now on 40/10

It's odd, but due to the way speedtesters work there never going to be absolutely 100% accurate as there are a lot of factors involved when testing throughput. It's probably worth always cross-checking your speeds across multiple sites.

I'm glad to see that you're almost reaching the cap though.

Re: Was on 55/10 now on 40/10

fwiw, for 3 customers to report a small drop in IP profile and max download speed after restoring 55/10 profile, does seem very suspicious.

Not sure if I trust the results from speedof.me.  When I use the following alternative speed testers, they max out at around 49 Mbps when they used to report 51+ Mbps.

https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest

http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest

Personally, I'm not concerned about the loss of 2 Mbps.

Re: Was on 55/10 now on 40/10

Hi Bill888,

I'm with you on this, I think something is wrong and I suspect it's the IP profile you originally pointed out in the BT speed tester.   I also agree that speedtest.me is over reporting speed, I think this because there is a disagreement between speedtest.me and draytek router max bandwidth stats.   I think speedtest.net is far more accurate it agrees with my own router stats.

Also like you i'm not to concerned about the 3-4Mbps i'm loosing however.
