Very slow fibre

OK, I am a Plusnet customer and switched from normal to fibre b/band last Wed (14th Sept) - my Plusnet a/c says my est line speed is 40 mbps but current is 16.8mbps - I've used Ookla many times to speed test the line and circa 16mbps is the best I get. This is both wireless and wired, plugged into master socket, no obstructions, all other devices off etc - also checked by downloading various Sky shows and timing them  - Sky box plugged into router by cable with 2 devices side by side - 8 mbps was the best ! Hopeless.

I was getting that with my old "normal" b/band.

Cancellation request will be forthcoming unless anyone can think of other ideas..? - should have just got Sky or BT Fibre which have better routers

Re: Very slow fibre

@hrgg54

Welcome to the forums.

I take it that the current speed you said of 16.8Mb is from https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed or is it from speed tests?

Is so what happens when you run the BTW speed test http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/PerformanceTesterWS/diagnostics.do , just entering your phone number. Does the IP Profile returned show a higher speed?

Also when you look up your estimated speed at http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome? what estimated speed ranges are shown?

If only the portal speed is 16Mb and the rest(IP Profile, DSLChecker) are in the 30Mb+ ranges then contact Plusnet and get the Plusnet Current Line Speed corrected.

Edit: to add last paragraph

Re: Very slow fibre

In the above I'm assuming that the FTTC upgrade did actually happen. Stranger things have happened so it may not have.

You can check (if using the Plusnet Hub One) by login into the router, click Troubleshooting, then click HelpDesk and look at the line which says Modulation.

If the number is one of these ( G.992.1 ,G.992.3,  G.992.5 ) then it is ADSL still

If (G.993.1 or G.993.2) then FTTC

(Numbers taken from http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/linestats_explanation.htm)

Re: Very slow fibre

Well that solves it (or at least explains it) - modulation shows G.992.5 Annex A, and running the BT test in the other post there is no fibre activated at my address.

For goodness sake...!!

Thank you to those who replied...
