Hello there,
Any tips on increasing broadband speed when connected to a VPN?
-> speed tests are below, through VPN is markedly slower.
I understand that the usage of the work network will have some impact. But my connection is markedly worse than other colleagues.
I use WIFI to connect to the Plusnet Router and the signal to the WIFI is full strength.
Have also tried shutting down the router overnight, but the issue still persists.
Thank you,
Colin

Two things I'd suggest checking:
- check with the laptop connected via ethernet, to rule out any WiFi issue (I don't expect that is the problem, but best to make sure)
- check the MTU through the VPN. It is common for VPNs to have a lower MTU as some overhead is needed to encapsulate the traffic. If you use a higher MTU than the connection can handle every packet has to be split into two, which can have a big impact on speed, especially if the device doing that is underpowered.

Hello,
Thank you for the reply.
For part 2, i ran the following code from command prompt:
ipconfig/all -> this allowed me to find companies website address that i could use.
ping -f -l 1358 websiteaddress -> websiteaddress is replaced by the reference found above
I kept adjusting the number 1358 in 8's from 1464 to 1350 at which stage no packets were lost.
Reference here:
But how do i change the MTU on a PlusNet Hub One?
When logged into the router using the address 192.168.1.254, I did find something called Port Clamping and have set this to Yes. Will see what happens -> Advanced Settings / Broadband / VPN / Port Clamping
Thanks,

I'm not sure how to change the MTU on the Hub One, or even whether it is possible (I use a more capable router), but you should be able to change it on your PC for the VPN connection which is presumably the only place traffic that goes over the VPN originates.

I have tried to set it on the PC but cannot due to admin restrictions.
So its either trying IT at work or perhaps a new router for home.
Is a new router worthwhile? (either through Plus.net or buying one online)
Command Prompt: netsh interface ipv4 show interface
From the list i selected the relevant one
Then typed:
Command Prompt: netsh interface ipv4 set interface "Interface Name" mtu=1350 store=persistent
