I'd happily upgrade to fibre right now... But you insist on an engineer coming to my house. I already have a mk3 VDSL faceplate installed and (whilst I'll take an openreach modem as back up) I will be using my own vsdl modem. If anyone can confirm I can get fibre without having an engineer visit my house then sign me up! Otherwise, just wait until I'm at the end of my contract and wave me goodbye.

So you don't want an engineer ,supposing there is a line fault or something else that would impact the performance of VDSL2 which may or maybe not affecting you ADSL service ? at least with an engineer install these things should be checked out, (As long as it's a BTOR engineer and he/she does their job fully)
But if your on a Huawei cab then make sure that they don't give you a ECI modem because it doesn't support G.inp , infact make sure that the modem you are buying supports that and vectoring

If you already have everything set up the way it should be, the engineer will simply hand the modem to you. I am sure he/she will be happy to see that everything is already in place, and the fibre connection is up and running when they arrive (using your own modem).
I wouldn't have thought it should be a big deal.

An engineer has to visit your house because it is supposed to be part of their installation that they provide test results when the circuit is connected.
I'm sure they'd just take a look, realise you have a faceplate, stick their tester on and be done in 5 minutes.

That's assuming they (BT Openreach or appointed subcontractor) actually turn up in the allotted appointment timeslot.

fwiw, I would presume Plusnet will be planning to offer self-install fibre before the end of the year.
(Is it still true that Openreach still plan to cease providing fibre modems from the autumn ?)

I had a previous fibre connection when I moved to Plusnet and the engineer bypassed the visit as his records already showed I was fibre-ready. He might not bother.

This is pretty much my exact issue... The reason I don't want to be at the house isn't because he's only going to be five minutes... It's because I don't know when he'll show up and even if he does I lose at least half a days holiday/pay... All for something I know should be fine.
Guess I'll just wait and see if anything changes.
