All has indeed gone well. The OR engineer has just left, having replaced the master socket with "the correct fibre one" in his words. We made a test phone call before he left and broadband was no longer affected. And no more rat tailed filter either.
Apart from this problem, which seems sorted now, I have to say that so far the Plusnet fibre broadband is a noticeable improvement over the previous cable broadband in terms of both speed and consistency.
