Upgrade to FTTP in Nottinghamshire

Hi,

After hearing (and checking) that FTTP is now available in the village I live in, I contacted PlusNet to see if I could upgrade. I was advised to log a question here, as the chat operator didn't know the answer. Fair enough, no one knows everything 🙂

What I'd like to know is:

1) What FTTP packages are PlusNet offering in my area?

2) BT are offering up to 300Mbps, what are PlusNet's?

3) What's the upgrade process?

If anyone from PlusNet could get back to me on the above, I'd be grateful.

Cheers,

Richard

Re: Upgrade to FTTP in Nottinghamshire

Run your phone number here to check what's available.

http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome

If FTTP is available it will have a column headed "FTTP Install Process" which will say "1 stage" or "2 stage"

There will also be a FTTP narrative under the results - the last bit can be helpful.

Re: Upgrade to FTTP in Nottinghamshire

Thanks Brian. That seems to match what the Openreach system says too.

It also shows 1 Stage for FTTP.

Fingers crossed eh? 🙂

Re: Upgrade to FTTP in Nottinghamshire

Fix

Right , so it appears you can order FTTP.

One stage implies it's done using the new style of install which requires only one visit. A pre-connected cable is run from the Distribution Point to your house, through the wall and then terminated in a Optical Network Terminator (ONT).

The narrative bit might say something like "UG feed proven clear" - for my house this meant it's an underground connection and the network install team checked the cable duct to the house and it was clear (in fact they left a draw rope in place).

PlusNet FTTP is a "trial" product so few staff know anything about it. It's not integrated into the back office systems so call operators, for example, see nothing. The best place for support is the FTTP Trial forum.

PlusNet offer two packages which are based on the FTTC products and prices. Note that if you don't have a PlusNet phone line (or want to drop the phone afterwards) there is a £2.50 surcharge.

To sign up you need to submit a support question. Login to your PlusNet Members page and then use the following link

https://portal.plus.net/wizard/?wizard_id=20

You'll also see the Terms & Conditions page and FAQ's which should be read.

Re: Upgrade to FTTP in Nottinghamshire

I have also found this entry on https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/

Nothing about a column with FTTP install process though.

Featured Products

Downstream Line Rate(Mbps)

Upstream Line Rate(Mbps)

Downstream Range(Mbps)

WBC FTTP Availability Date

FTTP on Demand 330 30 -- Available

Any thoughts please?

Re: Upgrade to FTTP in Nottinghamshire

My thoughts are, yes FTTP on demand is available. but it costs thousands of pounds to install and a 3 year contract at £150 - £300 a month. PlusNet do not offer it at all. Still interested?
