Transfer from ADSL to Fibre

Hello. It appears that BT will be offering Fibre connections to the Ellastone (Ashbourne) exchange quite soon. Will PlusNet be offering a Fibre service too? And do you know when it might be available?
If you will be, is the transition "painless"? Can you please describe the process.
If not and we will have to sign up with BT then can PN offer any services to minimise the pain? For example: can you offer email re-direction (server side which requires no email account) from Plus Net to the new email addresses?
Thanks.

Re: Transfer from ADSL to Fibre

I have recently upgraded to Fibre and found it relatively painless. There are two websites I found useful. The first one gives you an idea as to when (or if) an area is to be upgraded:-
http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/
and the second website for details of expected speeds etc
https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/ADSLChecker.Telephone?URL=&SP_NAME=a%20service%20provider&VERSION...
Once it shows as available on the BT Broadband Availability Checker (the second website listed above) then you can order Fibre from Plusnet (or BT). If BT are offering Fibre then so will Plusnet and just about any other ISP.
It is best to speak to the Customer Options Team at Plusnet (0800 013 2632) to negotiate a better deal for an upgrade to Fibre then is available online.
You need to decide where you want to put your Router for fibre as a new Master Socket will be fitted. If you need to place it away from the existing Master Socket then you have the option when ordering to have a Data Extension cable fitted. On the upgrade day a BT Openreach Engineer will call at your house to fit the new Master Socket and Data Extension Cable if required. He should then check the internet connection is working. I had to wait 2 weeks from ordering until upgrade day and the BT Openreach Engineer took about 50 minutes at my house to complete the work. Prior to this he had carried out some work at the local BT cabinet.
These FAQ's from Plusnet may be helpful to you.

Should you wish to transfer to another ISP then you would just contact the new ISP to arrange the transfer. You will lose your Plusnet email from the time the transfer takes place. There is an option to pay a fee to retain your email ( I think it is about £12 per year) providing you arrange this with Plusnet yourself prior to the transfer.

Re: Transfer from ADSL to Fibre

It would appear that all installations after 17 December 2015 will be self install so the above information will be incorrect from this date.

Re: Transfer from ADSL to Fibre

I have just moved (still moving) to fibre and it is proving to be a painful move. Everything should have happened last Wednesday. A week later, after two engineer visits, I still have no broadband and havent been told when, whatever the problem is, it will be fixed.  Angry
