Re: Traffic priority has gone,Videos block out games & voice

all those disconnects are me, the ppp session drops are me changing my setup, and the disconnects is when ive changed a setting that required a reboot.

I have QoS set for my network to prioritize gaming packets.

Is there anything that gets applied to the network at around 1am? just so i can point the finger at something

Re: Traffic priority has gone,Videos block out games & voice

Hi Kelly

My speed has dropped from 49 to 39 with 1 off the upload too

It seems the router dropped connection on command and came back with a lower connection speed

and even when i do a restart it does not go back

The Data rate on the routers stats went from about 9400 / 5300 to 9039 / 43357

Hi, you'll need to get in contact and get the faults team to take a look at that.  I'm not able to see if there is any recent line speed changes on your account.

Re: Traffic priority has gone,Videos block out games & voice

Hi Kelly

I've found out that my IP profile has dropped from 55+ to 42

IP Profile for your line is - 42.27 Mbps

If possible can you get someone to set the profile back to what it was it 80 20 or something like that

my speed was 57 down 12 up then 50 down 9 up then 49 8 but now its 40 8

Re: Traffic priority has gone,Videos block out games & voice

Kelly did you say my line speed was changed, was that the profile that was changed ?

because i contacted support days ago and have had nothing back

but i remember now PN has my line speed profile wrong and PN is the only ISP who has it wrong as others report the right speed.

My line max was 57meg down up 12 meg

but has been about 50 down 10 up and has been for years

but now since my profile was changed i only get 39 down

a test i did said my bRAS profile was lowered and i guess this was you guys fixing the ping

can you set it back to the profile i had before or ask support to do it

support is bad and they don't reply and i need the speed back

the pic is what other ISP's report my line as being and they are right

PN at first reported my speed right but after i complained about a speed drop my line speed info was changed (years ago now)

Re: Traffic priority has gone,Videos block out games & voice

Can any PN staff pick this up and set my ip profile back to allow sync at 55 12

as you can see by this screen shot my ip profile has been lowered to 42

PN support is so slow taking weeks to respond

the last pic shows what it was

Re: Traffic priority has gone,Videos block out games & voice

The IP profile does not control the sync speed, it's the other way around. There is nothing they can do to simply increase the sync speed. FTTC speeds do tend to decrease over time as more people on your cabinet switch to FTTC, causing crosstalk (noise) to increase. But if you're getting speeds below the low end of your estimate, then you can report a fault which should be accepted and probably get an engineer visit.

Re: Traffic priority has gone,Videos block out games & voice

Hi

The problem is this is not just a slow drop over time this is 10 meg as soon as PN tried to help fix the game ping problems

my speed dropped from 57 to 49-51 and has been like that for years

as soon as they sent me a new router/modem i lost 1 on the up and down

then right after the speed profile fix i lost 10 down

In the past the ISP has set the speed profile and PN have done so a few times when auto didn't kick in

the thing is look at the upload profile there is headroom

the download profile is lower that it was and the down speed is right up against it at 42 sync so if it was set back to what it was leaving head room it should shoot back up

if i remember right ive seen this before, the isp raising the profile and the speed going back up

Re: Traffic priority has gone,Videos block out games & voice

The upstream BT IP Profile always shows the maximum upstream speed of the service you're on. There is no need for there to be an upstream IP Profile that matches your actual upstream sync speed.

The downstream BT IP Profile is automatically set to about 96.7% of whatever sync speed your line can currently manage.

The ISP cannot change the BT IP Profile, nor can they change the sync speed (well apart from switching between 80/20 and 40/2 etc.).

Plusnet can change their own Current Line Speed, but this will have no effect on the BT IP Profile and the sync speed. Plusnet increasing the Current Line Speed may improve your download speed as shown by a speedtest, but only if they are increasing their Current Line Speed after the BT IP Profile and sync speed had already increased.

It's possible that a single crosstalker can knock off a few Mbps of speed.

Re: Traffic priority has gone,Videos block out games & voice

Could it be the new modem then?

Re: Traffic priority has gone,Videos block out games & voice

Different devices will have slightly different performance. If you had an ECI Openreach modem, that uses the same chipset as the Plusnet Hub One, so it would be fairly similar.

The Huawei Openreach modem uses a different chipset, and many people prefer using them (or other Broadcom chipset devices). I think you can use the Openreach modem with the Hub One.

Re: Traffic priority has gone,Videos block out games & voice

As EJS is saying, you'll need to go down the fault process to change this, and then only if you are falling outside your original speed estimate.  We've been adjusting our speed profile for your line as BT have been changing it based on your line conditions:

Date changed Speed
10/03/2017 05:32 42200
02/03/2017 10:35 51400
01/03/2017 07:18 51800
01/02/2017 13:21 50200

So something happened between the 2nd and the 10th which caused BT to drop 9Mbps off your line speed.  That could be the modem?
