I got the generic email about broadband speed on Monday.
With my connection issues sorted (OR engineer had not connected VDSL service to my line) I had to wait a few days for my connection speed to claw its way up to, then past the old ADSL speeds. It seemed that it had stabilized at 12.5Mbps, and the margin was hovering in the 4-5 range.
So I was rather surprised to see that plusnet think I am connected at 37Mbps. Any idea why such a figure appeared in my inbox?
As a happy ending to this story, the zyxel8924 I got from eBay turned up, and after setting it up, it promptly synched at 20Mbps, 10% above the top end of my predicted speed range, so the plusnet hub was taken out back and put out of its misery.

Hi @AndrewJ
Apologies for the email you have received regarding your speeds, it appears the system sent the "up to" package speed not your actual speed. I have ran a check on your line today and I can see that you are currently in sync at 20Mbps at the moment. Please let us know if you have any further queries.
