Technicolor 582n and FTP

I'm looking to add an NAS box to my daughter's network to enable her to backup her files, and for me to backup mine to it. She will also be able to backup to a box on my network so we both have on-site and off-site backups.
My end is set up but I need to open port 21 on her modem. Reading around, it appears that the Technicolor 582n has an FTP server set up by default and that that needs to be removed before we can open port 21. Can anyone confirm, please, that that is the case and explain how to do it as I don't have the same router.
Thanks.

Re: Technicolor 582n and FTP

Thanks, I hadn't found that.
It seems to be quite 'complicated' for the average user with Putty and Telnet being suggested. I won't be setting it up so it's a pity there isn't an easier menu-based option for the less technologically interested and aware.
