Tablet fast, PC slow??

Speedtest.net records a speed of 2.7mbps for my PC; when I test with my Experia tablet I get 44.8 mbps.

My PC is on Windows 10 with the latest updates using an Edimax N150 USB adapter.

What steps can I take to find why my PC is so slow.

What's the PC like on a wired connection?

Re: Tablet fast, PC slow??

I haven't tried, mainly because of the upheaval involved moving the PC/monitor etc. to another room where the router is. It could be done at a push but I was hoping there might be other things to try.

Re: Tablet fast, PC slow??

Buy a cheap WiFi dongle to double test the PC or alternatively buy a long Ethernet cable.

Re: Tablet fast, PC slow??

what speed are you connected at ?

From a command promt type   netsh wlan show interfaces   to see what speed your connected at.
Also look at whats around you http://www.wi-spy.co.uk/index.php/component/content/article/49-inssider-2

Re: Tablet fast, PC slow??

You could try setting different wireless channels in the router. For wireless n the preferred channels are 1, 6 or 11 -- test each one of those three to see which is best.
You could also try putting the USB wifi adaptor on the end of a long USB cable, try the adaptor in different positions the higher the better..

Re: Tablet fast, PC slow??

56% Signal isn't great and that is reflected againt the speed which is showing as 20 mbps.

As npr said try moving channels first.

Not sure how far you expect an Edimax to stretch tbh.

One of these things is it ?

Re: Tablet fast, PC slow??

Actually the router is less than 24 inches from the wi-fi adapter, but there is a brick wall between them. You could join them with a piece of string no longer than 8 feet but the route involves an 360 degree corner.

Yeah brick walls are bane of the little guy.

Re: Tablet fast, PC slow??

Confirm with an Ethernet cable there's no problem with the connection - it may not look great but at least it would tell you your PC's OK. There doesn't look like there's a problem with your router given your tablet speeds.

It things are working with a wired connection think about Ethernet Powerline adapters.
