Re: Sync speed slowing down - Was around 50Mbps some months ago, now down to around 41Mbps

OMG what has happened??? I wish I just kept my mouth shut now. Look at this new record low sync speed and speed test. I still have your Plusnet router plugged in.

Why has this happened?!? Openreach came last week, tested and said it was fine back to the exchange and it looks like a Plusnet issue. Something is seriously wrong here! Please please do some proper equipment tests/investigations and find out....please. It's now over 10Mbps lower than it was last October. 😩

See the connection time below. This HubOne seems to keep rebooting itself as its never over 24 hours when I check it. I haven't touched it since last Wednesday! Is this killing my profile? I want to go back to my Asus router ASAP.

Just to add to your pain, 😐

For some reason my download speed increased at the beginning of March and stayed there. I didn't do anything.

Here is the log of the WAN connection from the date the Openreach engineer was here (18th). It keeps resetting in the early hours and getting slower. My speed had slowed by a chunk before I raised this thread but was stable and steady at least. What is going on now?:

Re: Sync speed slowing down - Was around 50Mbps some months ago, now down to around 41Mbps

@plusnettony  Can you look into this ticket again please? You can see from my last few posts things have gone from bad to worse.

I unplugged the Plusnet router after the last post as it was clearly disconnecting in the early hours and causing my profile to worsen more than it was before I raised the issue. I have gone back to my Draytek Vogor 130 modem and Asus router which are infinitely more stable and I have 65 hours of connected time at the time of writing this post. Though the sync speed and speed test are still well below even the 50Mbps sync / 42ish Mbps speed at the time of raising a ticket. They are now 44Mbps sync and 36Mbps speed test.

See the latest modem stats below:

Re: Sync speed slowing down - Was around 50Mbps some months ago, now down to around 41Mbps

Plusnet.. I'm extremely disappointed with your customer service this time around. What is this pretty harsh blow off I received in email with no obvious way to respond?

What was I unable to do? I'll do what I can to help but you haven't called or respond to my thread. Just tell me what you need? Now my speed has
dropped to record lows and I'm feeling pretty annoyed and dejected receiving an email like this.

Re: Sync speed slowing down - Was around 50Mbps some months ago, now down to around 41Mbps

Guess what came though my door today....a letter from Virgin Media (below - bottom) letting me know I will be getting FTTP soon! Ha, what perfect timing! 😂

While I'm here, here is a nice screen grab of my speed drop. The second drop was while that piece of junk PN router was plugged in to help them troubleshoot the issue and its constant reboots killed my profile which now looks banded given the sync speed it exactly 44Mbps with a download speed maxing at ~36.5Mbps.

Re: Sync speed slowing down - Was around 50Mbps some months ago, now down to around 41Mbps

Hi @h107474,

Thank you for taking your time to get in touch,

I am very sorry that you are having problems without service. In regards to the reply you have received this is an automated message stating our faults team has not received a response on the question in 14 days. After this time as we have not had a response we assume the problem is rectified.

I am sorry to hear that you wish to leave however if you wish to re raise the fault please don’t hesitate to do so. At this time due to the current situation you may find that your speed may fluctuate more due to demand on the network at peak times.

Kind regards,

Josh

Re: Sync speed slowing down - Was around 50Mbps some months ago, now down to around 41Mbps

@EdWeasley First of all I understand internet speeds will be less than ideal right now and staff support also impacted. Certainly prioritise those who have lost internet access or it is unstable for them first. I can't imaging not having internet at this very challenging time for families in lock-down.

But to try and clarify what has gone wrong with the communication and ultimately my slowing speed, please see the attached chat log from my account section. There was only one question I can see about arranging an engineer and I immediately called back and arranged the visit. I received no further communication or questions after the engineer visit. Why was the ticket/question closed stating I had closed it prematurely when I had taken no such action?

My speed issue remains and is worse than when the ticket was opened (likely due to using the Plusnet router which kept disconnecting). I know the Openreach engineer said he found no fault with the Openreach side of the line but earlier in the question thread attached, Plusnet acknowledged they found a fault and you can see the very sudden drops in speed shown in this forum thread via screen grabs above. I would like this resolved please. I understand this may have to wait until things return to normal and please prioritise people with more serious issues, but I felt like my issue was just ignored and all coms closed after it had just gotten even worse.

Re: Sync speed slowing down - Was around 50Mbps some months ago, now down to around 41Mbps

Another update: Its has dropped further. Now syncing at exactly 40Mbps (~34Mbps Download) - Banded?. At its best it synced around 54Mbps (~48.5Mbps Download) late last year. Is this most recent speed drop just related to COVID-19 system load? Anyway just wanted to keep the changes recorded for further investigation.

I assume you are paying for the 40Mbit product - because that is what your rate is limited to.

Although your maximum achievable speed isn't much higher. 😞

Re: Sync speed slowing down - Was around 50Mbps some months ago, now down to around 41Mbps

No I pay for the full bifta, Unlimited Fibre Extra as I said it used to be at almost 50Mbps download consistently for years until last October. But you are right I am now at less than the average speed for the entry level package (Plusnet sales page says average of 36Mbps on the entry level package). I just want it to go back to what it was. Nothing has changed on my end.

Having said that, Virgin Media are literally starting work on my street today! I was over the moon to see their logo on the barriers being erected this morning. So that's 350Mbps for me after this lock down is over unless Plusnet can pull a rabbit out of their...hat.

Your router says your DS rate is 39,998,000 bps which is strikingly close to 40,000,000 bps.

Just saying. 😀

Re: Sync speed slowing down - Was around 50Mbps some months ago, now down to around 41Mbps

I know, and the last sync before this one you can see further up was exactly 44Mbps so its being banded and also being pushed downward in steps. No idea why. Here is a nice chat of what has happened to my speed since last year. You can see how straight those lines are now on the two lowest levels. Banded for sure!

Re: Sync speed slowing down - Was around 50Mbps some months ago, now down to around 41Mbps

@plusnet Guys, Jesus, come on. See yet another re sync to a lower speed again below. I am trying to be patient given the lock-down etc but is this, or is this not banding on purpose to accommodate the lock-down demand or is this something you need to fix? We know the Openreach engineer tested the line to the exchange last month showing no faults and said it should be hitting the upper speed of ~48Mbps shown below in the BT Broadband checker as it had been just last October. Now it’s just tanking again and again despite a solid connection time of 28 days with no dropouts (see Vigor modem screen grab). We're down to a sync speed of bang on 35Mbps and downloading ~30Mbps.

Virgin have completed their FTTP install in my street now, they were super quick. I have a new cute little grey cabinet at the end of the block too so I guess I will be notified any day of their broadband availability. Do you think you can at least get the speed to go back a little bit up at some point before that happens and make me pause for thought before leaving? I am still paying for the Extra package and getting well below the basic package average speeds.

Re: Sync speed slowing down - Was around 50Mbps some months ago, now down to around 41Mbps

Another update, still record lowest speeds on this FTTC connection in 8 years of living at this address. See my connection time in the screen grab below is 50 days! Also the nice chart showing ever diminishing speeds. Can't you at least try a profile reset? The SNR values of 10dB are way up on what I used to get which was 4bB.

Thankfully Virgin have completed the FFTP install in my estate now (surprised it was happening in lock-down) so its just a matter of time before their broadband is live and I can move, if PlusNet really have just abandoned me to speeds 40% slower than I had last October, with no effort to try and resolve the issue.
