Re: Static IP and dropping connection

Hi @dedrury,

I have checked the connection and I can see 3 disconnections in the last 24 hours as shown below:

Was this while the router was plugged in to the test socket? If yes please raise the fault here and let us know so we can progress it for you.

Re: Static IP and dropping connection

Not into the test socket, however I have an NTE5c and the router is plugged into the front DSL socket and there is no other wiring connected to it. I thought the Hub One had solved the problem as it has been stable until yesterday. What does the error message indicate?

BTW, when I was using the Netgear router I wondered if the drops were temperature related so I dangled a min/max thermometer over it and I left it in place with the Hub One - the max temperature is 28 and a bit degrees so I don't think that is anything to do with it.

Re: Static IP and dropping connection

The error you saw is basically the router saying the current connection session has ended. It does not really tell us the reason for the disconnection.

Even though there are no wires connected to the Socket, there is still the faceplate there acting as a cover between the connection to the test socket. It could be a faulty faceplate that you have. Out of precaution, I would recommend you to take it off and plug the router to the test socket to see if there are any further disconnections.

Re: Static IP and dropping connection

OK done,

Noticed down SNR stayed the same at 9.3dB but up has increased from 5.2dB to 5.9dB (speed up from 4869Kbps to 5203Kbps)

Lets see how it goes

Re: Static IP and dropping connection

Has bee stable on dongle for last few days so today replaced old Mk4 VDSL faceplate with a new G.Fast capable one (if you'd like to upgrade me to G.Fast just to test ... Only joking - it's not available for me Sad)

13:09:39, 25 Jun. (2379941.710000) PPPoE is up - Down Rate=39950Kbps, Up Rate=5025Kbps; SNR Margin Down=9.0dB, Up=6.0dB

I'll keep watching to see how it fairs

Re: Static IP and dropping connection

Ho Hum,

Number of drops over the last few days. I'm now on my third router - a Draytek Vigor 2860 which produces more stats than you can shake a stick at. I attach a snippet around the time of a drop. I think I can see what's happening.

About every 30 seconds the Plusnet end of the connection sends out a heartbeat signal (1st line of the snippet) and the router responds (2nd line of the snippet)

When a failure occurs, the router doesn't receive the signal so of course doesn't respond, eventually Plusnet twigs and signals to the router to end the session.

As I've now changed the NTE5, the router and have no internal house wiring I guess it must be a problem with either the external line or the kit somewhere along the way.

Any thoughts?

Re: Static IP and dropping connection

Further,

I may have found the problem (fingers crossed). When I moved into the property and signed up with Plusnet, I asked the installer to move the NTE5 and to allow him to extend the cable he fitted an IDC connection block which as it was hidden behind furniture I'd forgotten about. Now SHMBO decided to move the furniture and revealed the connector - so upon investigation when I wiggled one of the connectors the signal kept dropping out so I guess an HR connection. I've now taken the wires out of the IDC connectors and twisted and soldered them so lets see what happens now.
