Static IP Router settings

I've just switched to a static IP because my Y-Cam cameras kept disconnecting for hours on end when a new IP was dynamically assigned, usually overnight and seemed to be quite frequent of late.

Working perfectly, cameras far more reliable now, touch wood. However, is there a setting I should consider on my Asus RT-AC68U to the fixed IP or leave it to get the IP dynamically after any disconnections  ?

Thanks

Re: Static IP Router settings

Fix

Just leave the router as it is, no need to change any settings.

Re: Static IP Router settings

Leave your router to get its Plusnet IP via DHCP as it will always get the same one, and saves a bit of faffing. But you'd maybe want your cameras to have a static or fixed IP as well as it won't do any harm and makes life easier for you when you know the address(es).

Re: Static IP Router settings

Thanks both.

The cameras, in fact all my devices, seem to have a fixed IP to the router. During the process of trying to solve the cameras issue I fully deleted them and reinstalled them and on every occasion they get assigned the same LAN IP.

Since the static they have both performed perfectly.

I'll leave well alone Smiley
