Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

I've added all your observations, and the un-cropped screen capture, to the ticket.

Will report back in due course.

PS Thanks again.

Something to try if you are on a static IP is to ask Plusnet to check your PN profile compared to your BT profile.

Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

That is a vague possibility, @Strat , but given that it has been OK up till last month....

Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

Ahem, I think the info in message 6 needs to be re-emphasised.

Get the noise on the line sorted, and you will get better speeds.

If a data tech is sent, they will fiddle with wires, reset DLM which will get your speeds back, then DLM will reduce them again. again = errrm is that not what happened!

A voice tech will listen to the line and get the noise sorted, them DLM can be reset.

Alas the days of multi skilled techs are limited..

Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

No argument there, @Mustrum but clearly the message posted by @worzel earlier this evening implies that PN want to wash their hands of the problem, whilst doing sweet Fanny Adams about it.

Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

@jab1  yes I know what you mean, the test was probably done soon after the DLM reset, but if done now, given the router stats, the result would be different.

@worzel  stick at it, get the noise sorted..

Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

Update: (mainly for me, but anyone else who is interested!)

Still no more drop outs, and speed stable at 8mbps.

Phoned by PN.

Apologised for the "misunderstanding" with the previous operative, about what my line speed should be and PN now accept it should be up in the 35 range not the 10 openreach reports stated.

Open Reach engineer to be booked when possible to check the line.

Unfortunately, my only days off are Today & Saturday, so obviously it can't be today, so we are going to try and get one for Saturday. If not, next Tuesday.

Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

Glad you appear to be getting somewhere, @worzel - and it wasn't a 'misunderstanding' with the previous operative - it was pure and simple incompetence - if I could see you should be getting the ~34/35Mbps speed, then PN should have it shouting at them.

I doubt you'll get a Saturday, but fingers crossed.

Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

Interestingly, my speed randomly increased today.

Still less that it used to be, but much better that it was.

Have/had you arranged an engineer?

Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

No. Nothing has been done, as far as I know.

Ticket is on hold until tomorrow, to see if PN can get a Saturday Openreach appointment.

Not sure if I should cancel that now?

As don't want them to come out, and say they found "nothing" (because it's corrected itself), and I get charged for the visit.

Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

Do you still have noise on the line?

If not now, then how about when it is windy or raining?

Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

Looking back, I wouldn't cancel - you have an intermittent fault.

Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

Ah good point.

The noise remains, even though neither windy or raining (currently)

Re: Speed slowing, frequent dropped connection

Just tell them about the noise when they come out, when that goes, you will get the speed back.

Broadband needs a quiet line for maximum speeds.
