Speed has slowly dropped from 70Mbps to 60Mbps

Hi,

I've had great line speed for a couple of years but lately, this has started to slow.

It used to be a pretty solid 70Mbps and has now dropped to 60 - sometimes 55.

My minimum guaranteed speed is 53.8Mbps but I'm concerned that the service is degrading more and more and will soon fall below this.

The router is fine (not using the terrible standard Plusnet router!) and I'm running over a cabled connection.

What can be done to get my speeds back up to where they used to be?

Thanks

Re: Speed has slowly dropped from 70Mbps to 60Mbps

Thanks for your post @Rallyepalmer and welcome to our Community Forums

I've tested your line today and I can see your router's getting a sync speed of 68mbps and there's what's known as retransmission enabled on the line (Downstream: 0.128M-80M4dB with Retransmission (High). Upstream: 0.128M-20M with no error protection) which would explain a throughput you're seeing of around 60mbps.

Retransmission is a form of error correction and it can take a bit of a bite off your download speed.

Unfortunately there isn't much we can do to bring your sync speed back up where it used to be and therefore throughput as our tests aren't showing any issues and your speed's within our suppliers expectations still.

I'd recommend plugging your router into the test socket explained Here which should rule out any internal wiring to maximise the speed your router gets from the cabinet (the green box in the road)

I've attached our testing below if you're interested in having a look

Re: Speed has slowly dropped from 70Mbps to 60Mbps

Thank you for testing the line for me, as long as no fault was found I'm happy!
