Speed dropping daily

Hi,
I've been on Plusnet Fibre since early this year, i was told my line was capable of download speed of 38 Meg. I got 34 Meg from the start and was happy with that as it was much better than I had before. Over the last two weeks speed has been dropping slowly on a daily basis and is now down to 27 Meg. I have checked everything as advised in other posts and nothing seems to get it back to the original speed. Are there any general network problems?
I have tried all three of our computers, two of which are running Windows 7 and one running Windows 8. I have even tried a relatives Plusnet router, still the same speed.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Gerald

Re: Speed dropping daily

What do your plusnet and BTW profiles say you can find your plusnet one here - https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
and you can find the BTW one here - http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ ;   to get the profile run the speed test then when it's finished choose further diagnostics this will show you the profile that is set.
if both are as they should be then all i can think of is cross talk which there is currently nothing that can be done about it  i have lost around 8Mb due to cross talk.

Re: Speed dropping daily

Are you running the tests wired or wirelessly? Can you try this test http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html and post the image result?
You should be able to get around 36-37Mbps with those profiles posted.

Re: Speed dropping daily

I've just had a look at the exchange reports we receive and there are currently no known capacity issues at your local exchange. I see you've got a fault ticket open, so I'll update that shortly for you.

Re: Speed dropping daily

It's a well known fact that BT never admit congestion even when it is blatantly obvious from the TBB speed tests. If there were more instances on the same exchange they may start to take notice but it can be a long winded process to get anything done about it. Sad

Re: Speed dropping daily

Hi RealAleMadrid,
We have reports which show stats which help us with contention issues. If we find that x number of our customers have speed faults at a certain exchange, it's also possible for us to raise to our supplier if they aren't already aware of potential issues.

Re: Speed dropping daily

Thanks for the update, we'll keep checking the fault report for updates back from BTWholesale and will let you their response.
That speed test has been recorded on the line too, so adds weight to the performance problems you're having.

Re: Speed dropping daily

Hi Chris,
Just done another speed test at 16:17 today with these results:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 14.53 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 30.9 Mbps-38.62 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 38.62 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 5.95Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps
Ping Latency was 55.6
Speed keeps dropping each day, get the odd time when it goes up a few Mbps then comes down again.
Not too happy at the moment.

Re: Speed dropping daily

Isn't this just typical? Engineer booked to visit Wednesday 19th afternoon, have been getting sub 30 Mbps for over three weeks even down to 14.53 Mbps. For the last 24 hours speeds hovering around 30Mbps, latest test below
Download speed achieved during the test was - 31.09 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 30.9 Mbps-38.62 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 38.62 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 6.62Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps
Wondering if something has been worked on in the meantime before the engineer arrives?
