Re: Slow :(

@Gandalf thanks for that, looks ok no interleaving or banding which is nice,  down on the 47Mb I was getting but still in range so will have to make do. just hope it doesn't go any further hopefully it will increase a little over time although that's rare for me.

@rongtw what was the acceptable range before?  Got a screenshot?

Re: Slow :(

I think the low end of the acceptable range from the BT speedtester has always been 40 for FTTC connections with speeds greatly exceeding 40, and this also corresponds to some old BTWholesale documentation that had 40 as the minimum planned throughput. Which was why I originally asked where the 50 came from.

Re: Slow :(

The acceptable range for that speedtest has always been 40->IP profile for me in the past when on the 80/20 package, below is a test from February this year as an example (further diagnostics isn't running for me at present Angry)

Re: Slow :(

I think my internet dropped twice in 2 days, and when i try to run a speedtest with BTW i get the following message...

" The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider "

I wonder if it is a problem with BTW because this speedtest seams to be working fine

Re: Slow :(

So the tests show no problems and the speed is within the acceptable range - surely it is to be expected that the engineer will find nothing wrong, a waste of time and money?

Re: Slow :(

@ejs Surely there is something amiss here , my average speed is 74 but for the last few weeks it has been 52 ish Huh

the acceptable range is way to far apart 50% loss cannot be acceptable , if electricity board said sorry your 120 volts is in acceptable range would people be happy ?.

while i accept that for some people 50 is a acceptable speed , some lines its the max attainable  a loss to 40 is 10% approx .

i belive that i pay for 80 my average is 74 i would like what i pay for !

If you don't like what you're paying for, then maybe you should be paying for something with higher levels of throughput.

Pretty much all analogies about the supply of electricity, water, specific quantities of goods are not really applicable. The electricity network was designed and built to supply electricity at the set voltage which is probably nominally 230V. Phone lines weren't built for broadband. Broadband networks have always had contended backhaul where there is not enough bandwidth to give everyone 100% of their line speed at the same time. Apparently almost all FTTC cabinets have (or had at the time of the report, 2016) a 1Gbps link back to the exchange.

It's like everyone imagines that they're paying for a leased line with guaranteed 100% throughput and uptime, but in reality they aren't.

OK I suppose that there might be something amiss here, but I don't think it's likely the engineer will find anything wrong with your line. And I do think it's likely that as line speeds increase and more people sign up to higher speeds, it'll become more normal that you won't always get your full line speed all the time.

Re: Slow :(

@ejs  you were correct Thumbs_Up  at time of his test eveything was ok Roll_eyes no fault found Embarrassed

he did say it could be crosstalk , but he was a home engineer and could not check the Cab

strange though since he left my speed has returned ? Capture 1.PNG
