Slow fibre broadband.

I query a noise margin of 10dB and a slower than expected download rate. Is there enough here to warrant raising (another) fault? Once upon a time this line was good to fully utilise the 38Mb/s service and was very stable, but not now.

PlusNet profile.

Phone exchange:
BRENTWOOD
Estimated line speed:
49Mb (This may vary between 35Mb and 49.6Mb) - Checked on 2017-07-24 22:11:22
Current line speed:
27.6 Mb

Router PlusNet Hub One.

DSL uptime:1 days, 01:25:36
6. Data rate:5715 / 28682
7. Maximum data rate:6558 / 38411
8. Noise margin:6.0 / 10.0
9. Line attenuation:32.0 / 21.6
10. Signal attenuation:34.1 / 19.3

BT Speedtest.

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.

Download speed achieved during the test was - 19.41 Mbps
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 27.76 Mbps

2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 4.94Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps

Re: Slow fibre broadband.

From testing your line, it looks like your router is in sync at a level below what we'd like to see.

I'd recommend plugging the router into test socket as explained here

If that doesn't help, I'd definitely advise to report a fault to us at http://faults.plus.net

Re: Slow fibre broadband.

Connecting the router directly into the test socket did not help so I have raised a fault.

(The reporting process required a visit to the BT speed checker which requires Flash. I don't want that anywhere near my Mac but downloaded it anyway only to find that the speed checker did not work fully anyway.)

Thanks for your help.

Re: Slow fibre broadband.

It looks like the testing process has detected a potential problem and has reported it through to BT.

We'll provide an update via this ticket when we have more info.

Re: Slow fibre broadband.

A BT openreach engineer came on the 18th October. He was very good. The line has retrained itself upwards since and is now :-

Estimated line speed:
49Mb (This may vary between 35Mb and 49.6Mb) - Checked on 2017-07-24 22:11:22
Current line speed: 45.4 Mb
5. DSL uptime: 0 days, 00:04:56
6. Data rate: 6890 / 47886
7. Maximum data rate: 6890 / 49415
8. Noise margin: 5.9 / 3.8
9. Line attenuation: 30.4 / 21.7
10. Signal attenuation: 29.6 / 20.8

Thanks all round.
