Slow Fibre since the weekend

Ticket #98808021
Can you please give me an update to this issue.
My ping times to bbc.co.uk are now around 29ms - last week they were 19ms.
My upload speed was 17Mb/s now 14MB/s
My Download was 56Mb/s now 44Mb/s
All this occurred last weekend on Sunday and has not improved since.
I had the previous speeds for nearly two years, when they dropped from 70Mb/s.
To lose so much in one reboot of the router seems rather excessive.
Thanks.
Mark

Re: Slow Fibre since the weekend

It looks as if DLM has decided you now need to be on interleaved.  If the issue was a temporary one it can take DLM up to 3 weeks to decide to be nice and give you your speed back.
You can check at http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ and run Further diagnostics to get a bit more of an idea, or stats from an unlocked modem.
I any case you probably won't be able to do much about it I am afraid.  Good luck.

Hi Dav0,
I can see you have a ticket open with our faults team, I'll get one of the guys to have a look into that for you.

Re: Slow Fibre since the weekend

Just had the BT Engineer out - what a really nice chap!
He reset the line and wow - 13ms to bbc.co.uk which is 3 times quicker than it was (although slower than when I first got broadband - but hey ;D) speed is up too, although for me ping is what really matters.
Very pleased and appreciate the response from PlusNet - just a shame you guys cant press the reset button - he did that sat in his van outside on the drive!
Great service,Thanks

Re: Slow Fibre since the weekend

Did he give a reason to why the drop? Thought BT don't send engineers just to reset DLM

Re: Slow Fibre since the weekend

I spoke too soon. The DLM has kicked in and I’ve now got 29ms ping to the bbc (interleave back on). I guess I’ll have to wait and see what the next ten days of line training brings. It’s frustrating as a week ago I had interleave on and got 19ms. I was happy with the performance this morning and it all seemed good to me. I have a relatively long line to the cabinet (around 400M) so I don’t expect full speed. The actual line sync speed has gone up, at the expense of ping. The low ping really helps working at home remotely driving another PC at work and gaming too  Tongue
The reason I believe I had problem’s is due to some external garden wiring (now fixed) and this has caused quite a number of trips of the “fusebox”, hence confusing the DLM, that’s my theory, and the BT guy thought that may be the case too.
I blame the gold fish! Angry

Re: Slow Fibre since the weekend

Yup interleaving has been brought back on I'm afraid.
"0.128M-80M Downstream, Interleaving Low - 0.128M-20M Upstream, Interleaving On"
Unfortunately there isn't much we can do but in theory as long as the line stays okay DLM may choose to take it off at some point in the future.

Re: Slow Fibre since the weekend

It gets worse - I'm now getting pings of 80ms to the bbc - but I guess I'll have to sit tight and wait.
Apart from one reboot on the first day when it added interleave its not rebooted since (I've rebooted now to try to get the ping down).
I'll post my stats from the zyxel 8324 I have - which gives me the best connection, and which has been on since  the BT engineer called, just in case some experts can spot anything....  Its shows Annex B but that's a bug with the Zyxel I believe

Re: Slow Fibre since the weekend

Have you tried gateway hopping?
I can see from those stats that a 'Delay' of 8 has been applied. This cannot cause a jump from 29ms to 80ms.
The delay of 8 can however, explain the original jump from 19ms to 29ms. As you can gain/lose a couple of ms by using different gateways (I can see a difference of around 4-5ms depending on which gateway I'm on)
I can also see that there is a small bit of interference on your line (which is probably why the DLM has kicked on) on your D1 channel. Your line attenuation is 12dB where as your signal attention is 16dB, meaning there are external factors adding more attenuation. There would be nothing that could be done in this case, until (I assume) you went below the lower limit for expected performance on your line.
It's possible you could just be experiencing crosstalk from another subscriber who's gone live on your cabinet.

Re: Slow Fibre since the weekend

Only a couple of ms between gateways thing is it's not really down to the gateway but which one of the several endpoints that you also happen to connect to  see the tracert here http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,135389.msg1199611.html#msg1199611 that's the highest  I've come across something definitely was a miss with that endpoint because IMO opinion base latency should never be so high ,

Re: Slow Fibre since the weekend

As I'm on the 'ten days of DLM training' I'm reluctant too mess too much, but I've just had another look and I had a reboot this morning.
Now the upstream looks like its not interleaving but the downstream still is. The pings are better too -19ms.
I guess I'm just going to have to learn to be patient. Something I'm not very good at.
I've posted my stats again for the interested and I appreciate the advice.

Re: Slow Fibre since the weekend

There is no 10 day training on Fibre,  DLM makes it's choices within the first two days of the fibre line being active.

Re: Slow Fibre since the weekend

I thought DLM don't make changes in the first 48hours? Could be wrong.

Re: Slow Fibre since the weekend

Yeah, for the first 48 hours DLM won't do anything. The line is still rate adaptive though - so it will go as fast as it physically can.

Annex B is correct for VDSL2
You're thinking of ADSL which is Annex A in the UK.
