Slow 2.4Ghz Wireless.

I have a TP-W9980 router, updated to latest fw.

I've noticed my wireless speed has dropped massively from 65Mbits to 8!

Not sure if my router is suddenly dodgy - no changes in other equipment.

However I checked my router config to find:

There is horrendous crackling and popping from time to time on the phone too. Has been occurring for years but multiple BT engineers unable to find a fault.

Have you tested your speed using a wired connection?  Given that you've got a noisy line and lots of errors it would seem likely that this is nothing to do with wireless?

Oops - Apologies!!

Suggest you try changing the router wifi channel then - Try channels 1, 6 and 11 to see if there are any improvments.
