Slooooooooooooooooooooooow speeds...seriously slo o o ooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww w

Hi. new customer. moved from talktalk...to be honest they werent actually that bad, had great speeds etc but saw the ads on tv and competitive price so switched. literally moment we went live and router went on we were hitting massive figures of 5 down and 3 up...this is on fibre extra. we dont live in a mansion, not streaming constantly, only have about 4 devices in use, we zoom daily but we use our O2 data through hotspot from smartphone because router drops out. we are only about ten meters away from the router. our estimated speeds of 69-72 down and 17-18 up have never been achieved. so openreach were sent out...problem was the router...new router arrived...speeds still no better. even with ethernet cable attached the most we achieved was 21 up and 13 down. havent even been customer for one full month and have really had enough. we are reaching roughly between 7-11 down and 2-9 up daily now. we're constantly having to buy extra data for our mobiles as we cant use the wifi. really have no idea now what to do next. any suggestions??

Using a desktop pc or a laptop check the broadband speed using an ethernet cable to connect the pc and router.
What speed do you get?
Then try the same test using wifi.
What speed do you get?
10m away though a couple of walls or on the top floor is a long way for wifi.

Re: Slooooooooooooooooooooooow speeds...seriously slo o o ooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww w

thanks for your reply. weve used ethernet cable to laptop to test speed and achieved 21 up  and 13 down. ive used the bt wholesale, plusnet and the ofcom checkers and all roughly the same. wifi readings are ever so poor averaging 7-11 down and 2-9 up. the router is in the hallway and ive been testing wifi in my kitchen directly behind the hallway, about 10metre distance and no walls furniture etc in way and still very poor. ive tried wifi test readings stepping increments of metre or two at a time towards the router and still so poor.  ive seen on lots of reviews that people are suggesting using bt homehub 6 so im gonna try that now and see if its any better

Re: Sloooooooooooogooooooooooow speeds...seriously slo o o ooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww w

It does look like your wifi signal is either suffering from interferance or being screened. Houses today often use foil backed plasterboard as a damp proof membrane. Try moving the router away from the wall as far as possible (at least a metre) and test again.
Does your phone app show other strong wifi signals on the same channels?
21 up and 13 down does suggest a BB fault. Is the phone line quiet? No pops, clicks, crackels Huh
Here, for example, my neighbours wifi degrades my 2.4G and makes it slow but the 5G is fine. Thier box channel hops - nowt I can do about it. 🙂

HH6 should be better.
Still check for interferance or screening though. Moving the HH6 nearer to your "action center" is allways a "good thing" 🙂
