Sites Take Forever to load

As per the title really, The speedtest.net result is 18Mb up/5Mb down which is nothing special..
The real problem is that sites can take up to 2 minutes to load, and sometimes don't load at all...
Started happening about 2 weeks ago, was fine before that.
Anyone else had this and managed to fix it?

Re: Sites Take Forever to load

If you're using Chrome then it has a window you can bring up to see how long resources are taking to load on the page.
You could also try changing your DNS servers to see if they're causing the problem.

Re: Sites Take Forever to load

I'd also try rebooting the router (not the BT modem), this has been known to help on occasion.

Either way, this sounds like something the CRT should be able to sort out - I know Matty is a provisioning specialist, he sorted me out when we switched!

Re: Sites Take Forever to load

Hi,
It's a wired connection to the router. The problem occurs with different browsers on different User accounts.
A couple of weeks ago it was fine, now it's very frustrating to use...
My gut-feel is that I have a virus that the normal antivirus programs are missing.. I have scanned with a couple of Spyware programs, but no improvement.

Re: Sites Take Forever to load

Personally i would use Malwarebytes  https://www.malwarebytes.org/ ; the free one  Wink
but also try to boot it safe mode F8 as PC starts then run Malwarebytes .
you could also type MSCONFIG in the search in start button , have a look at what is in startup tab and unclick the ones that dont look right .

Re: Sites Take Forever to load

I hope no one minds me linking back again to this thread  from December:
Web pages stall when loading | Community Site
Your problem seems to be the same one which is repeatedly cropping up in the forum, I think three separate threads since then and probably earlier threads.
If the OP's description in this link is similar to your own experience, it's possibly worth a read.  Changing the DNS settings resolved the problem for me in this instance, and as you say, when unresolved it is very frustrating.
You should be able to alter DNS settings either on your computer, or on your router, or both - the examples in the thread were with iMacs but Plusnet also has this advisory page: Changing DNS Settings in Windows XP
