Should I be getting better speeds??

When I joined PN Unlimited fibre about 17 months ago I was getting speeds of 32mbps download and 6/7mbps upload. This was obviously before the package was changed to 55/10.

When the packet loss issues started a number of weeks ago I noticed that my speed had dropped down to 25mbps down and 4mbps up. I submitted a fault ticket which was flagged for an engineer visit. He arrived last Friday and found 2 faults outside which he fixed. My speeds had went up a little to 27mbps and 4.1mbps on wired connection even though using his own equipment he was able to get better.

I received a new router (Hub one) in the post today and have it all set up, I was hoping that it was going to get my speeds back to what they used to be, but nothing has changed and I still get 27mbps - 4.1mbps.

Running a BTW speed test I see the following;

 Download speed achieved during the test was - 27.56 Mbps
 For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 19.98 Mbps-28.55 Mbps .
 Additional Information:
 IP Profile for your line is - 28.55 Mbps

When I log in to my account and check the data transfer speed I see the following;

Estimated line speed:
    54Mb (This may vary between 40Mb and 54.4Mb) - Checked on 2016-09-19 15:01:15
Current line speed:
    55 Mb

When I go to my hub one settings > Advanced settings >broadband > connection - I see the following;

Line state:	Connected
Connection time:	0 days, 06:16:02
Downstream:	28.8 Mbps
Upstream:	4.669 Mbps

 Running a BT ADSL Checker at https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/adsl.htm I see;

I'm not exactly all clued up on how this all works however I thought I would of been able to see better speeds given some of the tests above, especially since I have had better speeds with PN in the past or is it normal for speeds to drop over time?

Does the "IP Profile" from the BTW speedtest mean that there is some sort of setting wrong on PN's side or that I have been capped so to speak and does this also affect the router page saying that my downstream is 28.8mbps?

Thanks in advance for any help or information, I might be barking up the wrong tree but it would be nice to know either way.

Re: Should I be getting better speeds??

Hi The BTW  IP profile is the speed that your getting from the Fibre cab that doesn't come from plusnet the one that is from plusnet is the "current line Speed" and that is set correctly, I would get back to support and request that they look into it further because you really should be getting more than you are.

Re: Should I be getting better speeds??

There is a lot more information available from the Hub One, from it's home page click Troubleshooting then Helpdesk. Make sure you hide personal info such as the broadband username.

Re: Should I be getting better speeds??

I've went back onto live chat & the agent has just added onto my previous ticket for the faults team to run more tests. Sadly I doubt PN will do much more to correct this issue for me and I will just have to suck it up for the next month.

Re: Should I be getting better speeds??

@MUFFiN the maximum data rate that you can see from the stats shows that you are connecting pretty much as fast as the line can handle.

One think that may be worth trying is to use the test socket and see if that makes any difference.
