I really should learn not to put all my faith in a solution until I've proven it to myself shouldn't I Smiley  Up-time is currently 0 days 22:22:55...

Re: Sagem 2704n daily reset

Hi Sunbite,
Well done if this proves to be the issue. There is no harm in naming the other ISP using the 2704n with their own firmware - it'll save us doing the searching Wink
Fingers crossed then.

Re: Sagem 2704n daily reset

Phew it's looking hopeful.  Currently on 1 day and 41 mins  Cool  I don't think it's ever stayed on as long as that, although I didn't check the up time when I was first connected into fibre as I didn't expect there to be an issue.  I do know that I lost ethernet for 2 days running as I swapped the port each time.
Thread on the Avast forum (ignore the unhelpful person - you'll know who it is lol) - also mentions the other ISP in that thread:

Re: Sagem 2704n daily reset

Ah, I see it's the 2504n there, but there are significant similarities with the 2704n. I'll have to read all the detail later, but based on your last post, it sounds like you've nailed it, let's hope so.

Re: Sagem 2704n daily reset

@Anotherone, I really do hope so, it is looking that way - 1 day, 1 hour and 3 minutes so far Smiley
Ref the router model - I was browsing during my lunch at work so wasn't at home to check the model.  I just saw Sagemcom 2*04n and made an assumption. Glad I did now though.

I wonder how skimarqueshc is doing? It would be nice to hear back.
Is it problem solved do you think, Sunbite?

Re: Sagem 2704n daily reset

@skimarqueshc bought another router I believe (he/she raised a different thread a few days ago) and this issue only seems to affect the Sagemcom routers.  I was hoping that others had experienced similar issues (which was the reason for starting my own thread) and would contribute saying they'd see similar issues.
Perhaps a thread titled Avast issue might get the attention so it can be 'proved'?  I do expect more to post as more of these routers are rolled out though.  Apparently you can force the reboot by performing a network scan in Avast although I couldn't find the option at all - must be buried somewhere.

Re: Sagem 2704n daily reset

@Sunbite - the Home Network Security scan is on the overview page of Avast, takes about 5 minutes max to run on mine, either that or hover over scan then find scan for network threats
@Anotherone - Sunbite was right, I am currently using a TP-Link 9980 which has been solid since I bought it on Monday, even if Avast was the issue I am going to stick with the TP link due to dual band and it replacing the BT Openreach modem too. I will get round to testing my new replacement PN router but it will need to be the Bank Holiday week in August as that is my next full week at home due to working away.
This is a list of when all my drops have been since I first reported it on 8th July
8th - None
9th - None
10th - 2100
11th - Fit new PN router
12th - 1100
13th - 1830
14th - 1830
15th - None
16th - None
17th - 1900
18th - 1900, 2000
19th - 1910
20th - 1945, 2200
21st - 2000 then BT home hub 3 fitted
22nd - None
23rd - None
24th - 0030, 0330
25th - None
26th - None
27th - Fit TP Link 9980
28th Onwards - None
It does seem very similar to the problem Sunbite is having, Weird thing is the 2 drops after fitting the new router was when my other half was Skyping me, the 2 nights after no drops and we skype the same time every night, once I get chance to test it I will dig this thread out and update you.
Thanks all for the help

Re: Sagem 2704n daily reset

Just a final confirmation that my router hasn't dropped connection since turning off Home Network Security in Avast.  Up-time is now 2 days and 10 hours so I'm happy  Smiley

Thanks for the conformation, we are running an older version here which is 150801-0 with no issue at present.

Re: Sagem 2704n daily reset

Very interesting thread. If someone had said to me that AVAST can make your router drop connection I probably wouldn't have believed them. Every time I make assumptions when it comes to solving computer problems, it seems it comes back to bite me!

Re: Sagem 2704n daily reset

I've not had time to dig into the detail on this yet, but I will be interested to learn the precise mechanism that's causing this. I have a few ideas and may post up a comment later depending on what I can find out.

Re: Sagem 2704n daily reset

That's a good find, but really strange! Thanks for sharing your info and research in to this, it's certainly not something I've seen before in this way. I have seen certain AV cause issues with browsing or similar, but not causing the router to disconnect.

Re: Sagem 2704n daily reset

Just read this after getting through 2 routers from Plusnet then giving up and buying an ASUS RT-AC66U as i was sick of the random reboots of the router. The ASUS has been rock steady. We do have one machine that runs AVAST and from what this thread says it suggests this is the issue, wonder if the network scan actually accesses an insecure part of the router software causing it to reboot or triggers a bug of some kind. Any way it's piss poor and happy with my new router just shame it cost me £100.
