Having had fibre recently installed I started with the PN supplied Sagem 2704N Router. As I also have my original Asus N55U ADSL Modem/Router, which can be configured as a router only, I thought I would investigate the wireless performance of the two in the 2.4Ghz Band (the Asus also does 5Ghz but that's irrelevant in this context).
I set the two up adjacent to each other (one on Channel 1, the other Channel 6) and walked around the house looking at the signals with my phone using the 'Wifi Analyser' App. Close to the two routers the received levels were about the same. As I moved around the house the Asus signal was at least 10dB higher. I found one position where the difference was an astonishing 30dB.
Needless to say the Sagem router has been carefully packed away in favour of the Asus unit. I will only get it out again if I have a fault that needs PN investigation.
