SNR Increased

Hello,

Yesterday during the day around 10:45am my fibre dropped off and took a while to return. I logged into the hub and noticed my SNR has gone from 6.3dB to 7.7dB however it's not effected my speed. If anything my Maximum data rate has gone from 79mb to 83mb.

Has anyone ever had this or not what caused this? IIRC DLM only makes changes during night

Re: SNR Increased

The dropout for whatever reason was a resync and all that the increased noise margin means that there was slightly less noise on the line when it resynched

Re: SNR Increased

Your actual data rate (both up and down) is at the maximum available for FTTC, the maximum data rate is calculated based on the SNR margin, this will increase with higher margin.  When at maximum speed a higher SNR margin is generally a good thing - it basically means that your line is being less affected be noise.

Do you check ping times or have a ping monitor?  If you've gained margin due to interleaving being applied then you'll see a distinct increase (7-8ms) in ping times - that might not be so good if low pings are important to you.

Re: SNR Increased

Hello,

Thanks for the reply, so is snr different between fibre and adsl? I remembered on adsl a higher snr would reduce speed and make it more stable.

Pings have not dropped, still getting 7ms to bbc. Maybe I just worry about things far to much

Re: SNR Increased

It isn't different

An increase in noise margin will decrease the sync speed - Unless the speed is being limited by something else which in the case of fibre is the package speed.

This also applies to MaxDSL if you are synching at 8,128kb/s
