Routing to box.com for uploads - slow direct, full speed via my linux server

Uploads to Box are incredibly slow at the moment. Downloads aren't blazingly quick either but the upload's killing me. Peering issues?
It's 5am so can't imagine contention is too much of an issue.
Direct upload (Chrome on W7 for what it's worth) yielded around 200-240 kb/sec.
Using one of my Linux VPSes (physically in the Netherlands) and SSH proxying through it: between 2.3 MB/sec solid, almost the maximum upload throughput I can achieve.
When I upload to Box, it connects (by default) to one of their CDN endpoints ("Box Accelerator") -- my upload session is using cdn01.boxcdn.net .
I'm sure it's been faster than this before. I also use this for work shuffling huge files around so to be able to get full upload speed directly connected would be nice. Smiley
