Request for comment after a DSL re-set

I don’t know if this means anything to anyone but about 15 min ago our DSL re-set for the first time in 87 days. The numbers displayed in DSLstats are weird to say the least but I’ve posted them below for comment.

Max:    Upstream rate = 22612 Kbps, Downstream rate = 127987 Kbps
Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 19999 Kbps, Downstream rate = 79999 Kbps
Bearer: 1, Upstream rate = 0 Kbps, Downstream rate = 0 Kbps
Link Power State:       L0
Mode:                   VDSL2 Annex B
VDSL2 Profile:          Profile 17a
TPS-TC:                 PTM Mode(0x0)
Trellis:                U:ON /D:ON
Line Status:            No Defect
Training Status:        Showtime

                Down            Up

SNR (dB):        20.1            13.0
Attn(dB):        10.0            0.0
Pwr(dBm):        13.5           -6.2

Note the extremely high SNR above this is normally much lower.
Also note the downstream rate of 127987 I last had a number this high when fiber was first installed.

                                                            Downstream       Upstream

Line attenuation (dB):      10.0                      0.
Signal attenuation (dB):  Not monitored
Connection speed (kbps):              79999                   19999
SNR margin (dB):              19.8                      13.0

Power (dBm):                    13.5                      -6.2
Interleave depth:              16                          1
INP:                      48.00                    0
G.INP:                                 Enabled                Not enabled
Vectoring status:              1 (VECT_FULL) *

* what is this? I have never had this setting appear before.

Regards P.

Re: Request for comment after a DSL re-set

It looks like you've had vectoring enabled, which cancels the crosstalk from all the other VDSL2 lines on your cabinet, and since you connect at the maximum speed, it results in a higher SNRM rather than a speed increase beyond the maximum.

Congratulations, you'll be making everyone who doesn't have vectoring jealous.

Re: Request for comment after a DSL re-set

Thanks for that, I wondered if that was what had happened. I have no idea why our cabinet has received an update or even how long the speed increase will last but it’s nice all the same.

@Pendragon

As a matter of interest, do you have any older statistics so you can say by how much your line has improved? Congratulations on getting the vectoring too, nice it has been snecked in.

Re: Request for comment after a DSL re-set

These are the sort of stats we have had for the last 87 days up until this evening, as you can see because we are quite close to the cabinet (about 250 Mtrs) and on a line with few other subscribers (houses) there is not much of an increase.

Max:    Upstream rate = 22585 Kbps, Downstream rate = 73730 Kbps
Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 19999 Kbps, Downstream rate = 73181 Kbps
Bearer: 1, Upstream rate = 0 Kbps, Downstream rate = 0 Kbps
Link Power State:       L0
Mode:                   VDSL2 Annex B
VDSL2 Profile:          Profile 17a
TPS-TC:                 PTM Mode(0x0)
Trellis:                U:ON /D:ON
Line Status:            No Defect
Training Status:        Showtime

                Down            Up
SNR (dB):        6.1             7.0
Attn(dB):        9.9             0.0
Pwr(dBm):        13.5           -6.6

Sorry but I don’t seem to have the second set of stats recorded that shows the Vectoring Status but as far as I know it never showed up until this evening.

Re: Request for comment after a DSL re-set

Your downstream sync rate (max) has gone up by a big chunk from 73Mb to 127Mb. Okay it only gives you another 6Mbps of usable speed but still excellent figures.

(6Mbps would be over twice the ADSL speed at my property if I still used ADSL, thankfully I'm on FTTP)

Thanks for posting them

Re: Request for comment after a DSL re-set

Just noticed a new tab has added under ‘Telnet Data’ from ADSLstats ‘Vectoring’ with the following stats;

adsl info –vectoring
adsl: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: Showtime
Last Retrain Reason:    1
Last initialization procedure status:   0
Max:    Upstream rate = 22612 Kbps, Downstream rate = 132957 Kbps
Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 19999 Kbps, Downstream rate = 79999 Kbps
Bearer: 1, Upstream rate = 0 Kbps, Downstream rate = 0 Kbps
Vectoring state: 1
VCE MAC Address: (there was a MAC address here but I removed it)
Total error samples Ethernet pkts sent: 29298
Total error samples Ethernet pkts discarded: 0
Total error samples statuses sent: 14649
Total error samples statuses discarded: 0
 >

So it does look like vectoring is enabled on our cabinet, might have to ask Plusnet for an upgrade to 100Meg fiber (a joke).

Re: Request for comment after a DSL re-set

Wonder how many people on your cabinet will spot this change or have the equipment to do so. Hope this is part of a national rollout and not just one more trial cabinet.
